5 copies of Freakshow Industries' MISHBY
Oh ok...
UAD API 2500 UAD Distressor or 1176
FF Pro-Q 3 Softube Tsar-1 Soundtoys Decapitator
Currently using Silver Bullet a lot, but I have a hardware SB so at a pinch could do without.

I can't get it down to 5 plugin collections! 5 plugins ... crikey. 1x EQ (Hitsville EQ) 1x Compressor (UAD LA2A Grey) 1x Saturation (Decapitator) 1x Limiter (Waves 1176 Bluey) 1x Reverb (Hitsville Chamber) What about delay - I have to have a delay. 1x Delay (Echoboy) So 6 but it would be a demo not a record (well could be a record from 1960 ) Delay and reverb are included free! No need to waste slots. Huh? Lot’s of people have included reverb and delay in their choice of 5.

I think about restricting myself some days, to 5 or 10 plug-ins because I like working under limitations.
1. FF Pro-Q3 2. Molot GE or The Glue 3. Exponential Symphony reverb 4. AutoAlign 2 5. Echoboy (Jr or Sr)
Expanded palette:
6. Soundtoys SieQ 7. UAD 175/176 8. UAD Ocean Way 9. UAD AMS RMX16 10. Line6 EchoFarm
It's actually tough, I left out quite a few other favorites.

Waves R Vox (for the general shape of the signal and for the gate if I need it) SPL Transient Designer (for attack and decay refinement, and for reducing room sounds if needed) FabFilter Pro-Q 3 TDR Kotelnikov (thump and color) FabFliter Saturn 2 (when addition harmonic saturation is needed)
No shit, this is the starting point for every channel strip in the template. Not everything gets used all the time of course. And the most likely sub is the last one - color ends up coming from Kush N, UAD 1176's or Manleys, Airwindows Channel 4, or Henry Olanga IR's for Nebula, but really this is pretty much is as for as the mix goes.
Pre-mastering is its own little animal and obviously quite different. That is usually some combo of:
The Glue Fire the Clip (Aucstica Gold series) Limiter Number 6 (I like starting with the M Fit preset) Oxford Inflator Pro L2

If we're talking just the mixing stage:
Satin Dopamine Black Box MS PA 902 PA Green Shadow Hills
Because of this thread I tried the Shadow Hills on mono vocal tracks and it sounds a lot classier than the UAD 1176 Blue. Seems less peaky too. I had been using it on snares and instrumental tracks and gotten better results than the other compressors I was using lately.

My honorable mentions ( they are also essential ) :
Decapitator Echoboy Little Plate
It may be old news, but Soundtoys remain fantastic.

I thought about this a lot. While something like Fabfilters Q3 brings a nice addition to workflow, I can get the same results with stock plugins. Compressors as well. Most stock plugins include different compressor flavors. Add some saturation/EQ and you can approximate the feel and vibe of most analogue EQs/compressors. Of course they won't sound the same, but you get the vibe. There are also free IRs out there that make a decent reverb and the stock delays were always good enough. So to start over using something over than the stock plugins, it would be something that I can't achieve with them. 1. Melodyne - obvious choice for vocal tuning etc. 2. Vocalign - huge workflow changer and no DAW has that capability integrated yet 3. Soothe 2 - makes annoying cymbals really nie. 4. Saturn 2 - Distortion heaven.
For 5 I would probably buy a synth like Arturia Pigments.

When I had a UA Apollo, I did the demo plug-in offer on almost every one of them.
Then I went to an Apogee Element and now a Neve 88M.
I use a little Channel EQ, sometimes Compression and a little Space Designer Reverb. If it’s a jazz tune, a little Exciter.
I like to play into my Josephson C715 and Schoeps MK41. I don’t believe those microphones need much adjustment.
All stock Logic plug-ins. Listen and adjust the sliders till I like it.

Fabfilter Saturn Slate Virtual Tape Machine Waves CLA76 UAD SSL 4K E Channel Strip UAD Fatso
I don't see anyone else mentioning the UAD SSL Channel strip but I would highly recommend shooting that out with some of the other SSL offerings (Brainworx, Waves, etc.) if you like channel strip plugs because the difference is bigger than I've heard in a lot of the shootouts I've done. It sounds much more like an analog device than I thought was possible in the box, especially when using the mic pre input!

I did a put it on every channel to make it seem like I'm using the console mix a few months ago. Before making any adjustments, all channels flat, I bypassed all channels and then brought them back, several times. That thing is doing something even when it's 'doing nothing.'
