you should also check out liquid sonics Seventh Heaven Pro as it is modeled off a Bricasti and is one of the only plugin reverb i even like, if you don't deviate from their chosen sample points you'd be hard pressed to tell, when you do stray....🤷🏻‍♂️(they actually state this in their manual, talk about full disclosure) So even adding a longer tail screws with it?

So you sold your M7 and bought another? Do you use 7th heaven at all? Do you like any plug verbs these days? I know you are a stickler(complimentary style), that is why i ask No, never sold it….but own liquid sonics…it’s very good…..I don’t have it installed atm though. The Bricasti is on every tune…other verbs are UAD plate, ams rmx…sound city….. I think it depends heavily on what kind of music you do. My stuff is pretty sparse…in track count and arrangement…so you get to hear the impact…..other kinds it probably gets lost/overshadowed. cheers Wiz

I can tell you i've heard some things and and not heard things when i deviated from, so 🤷🏻‍♂️(you could always gate down a longer tail if hear a problem or you don't want to mess) Its a great plug imo and i rarely use anything else itb beside it and fab filter Pro R, I don't have a HW Bricasti yet

Last Q, R U using "sound city" for mostly er and positioning? or r u using it for the verbs or both? Do you recommend it?

I'd LOVE to have one of these and dial up a room and track something like this...There's something magical about room sounds - makes you feel more realism...like you're there in the room.

Last Q, R U using "sound city" for mostly er and positioning? or r u using it for the verbs or both? Do you recommend it? using it as an artificial room.....(when I use it) then the bricasti as the verb in that case. It does what it does very very well.... Before the bricasti I used to always use 3 types of verb 1. Something to act like a room. Everything got some of that, it made close mic'd things sound like everything is in the room you create. 2. A plate verb , which acts like the back wall....so varying amounts provide depth. Placing things closer or further back (as close mic'd everything sounds like its next to you) 3. A hall verb... this gave things height....and special sauce...so say the main vocal, lead guitar , percussion etc. That always worked for me....and all the stuff prior to Bricasti was done this way. The Bricasti sort of takes care of 1 and 2 for me now...and does it way better, when used as a room.....and does 3. when I use Sound City cheers Wiz

That sound is not really my cup of tea...but.... the Bricasti would do that extremely easily...and.... you could do different rooms in a heart beat..... cheers Wiz

I sold a lot of hardware moving over to ITB, and my M7 was a part of that.
Now that I'm mostly ITB, I'm figuring out that there are a few pieces of gear that I prefer in hardware.
In my experience, in an A/B sound test, differences are small...but while performing, there is a difference in feel. I find tracking with Seventh Heaven on a send, does not "feel" as good as the hardware, or meld as well. So the hardware inspires the performance.
Same reason why I prefer to track through hardware compression if it's inspiring the "feel" of the performance, and allowing me to interact with it in real time.
When it comes to mixing though, the differences don't matter to me as much, as the performance has already happened, and often plugins are more convenient, and inspire my creativity by being able to experiment with more processing, while also sitting right in the sweetspot while tweaking settings.
In some ways I guess I could say I prefer hardware when tracking, and software when mixing; with some exceptions of course

I have contemplated selling the M7 many times. But never have. There are a few things that it does that are just MONEY (literally) for me. It's not in constant use, but it's valuable enough that I would certainly miss it, and my output would not be as good.

I'm interested in using the M7 to use as "room mics" as I am working in a fairly dead project studio at home. Has anyone explored the difference between sending the close mics to the M7, vs setting up a secondary pair of mics at a bit of a distance, and then sending those to the Bricasti 100% wet to create the room sound? I've heard some people say that this is a better approach than sending the close mics; but I'm not sure what the reasoning for this is. This is how I mostly use the Bricasti. I have a very small and dry tracking room. I’ve placed a single mic facing into a corner, away from the kit/source. I send that one to the Bricasti preset of choice. Instant great room sound.

Another thing I like to do is send a more abstract reverb or delay like some Valhalla thing or the Eventide Blackhole into the Bricasti. Takes the original effect and makes it way more 3D and it feels like a much easier thing to wrangle in the mix.
Still a great box. Hard to justify the price. I probably wouldn't buy one now but glad I did.

Or I could just set up mics...in a room. I mean.. you’d need a stellar sounding room with a lovely tail. And then you’d need one room for each such preset you like on the M7

The thing that Bricasti's do better than anything is real sounding rooms and spaces, and the stereo image is far better than any plug in I have used. I have two, generally use one for drum / band live performance rooms, and the other for vocal spaces - especially backing vocals. Still use my favorite reverb plugins as well.

After 9 years, running 4-10 hours a day, yesterday AM, my M7 fan became very loud for the first time. I opened the M7 for the first time, blew out dust, applied WD-40 to the tiny back of the shaft and restarted with the top off. Quieter but not as quiet as it has been all these years. The fan sounded as if it was slightly off track which makes a big difference at the rpm it reaches. Instinctively, I gave the fan housing a calculated tap with the rubber on a screwdriver handle. The fan settled back into alignment and has run almost silently, back to normal, for over 24 hours.

The vents are on the side and back but as always, I prefer gear that has been racked with a space above and below. Other than that, just condition.
