4.8 with a 4.0 later that same day. Not too bad generally speaking, but we’re not exactly built for them either. Definitely had worse when I lived in LA.

In LA, a 4.0 would barely make the news. Gotta get into the 5's or 6's to get everyone to pay attention. Each Richter point is 10X's stronger.
Funny how those amplitude graphs look so "audio-like". LOL

I live close to where it went off, maybe 25 mins away or so. I’m on the road with the band currently and wasn’t home but the wife called me immediate really scared. I had some friends send some videos from cams they had inside and outside their houses and it was no joke. The noise was pretty intense as was the shaking…
I’m honestly kinda bummed I missed that experience.
Also just had my house sheet rocked and a bunch of tile work done and I’m gonna be really annoyed if I’ve got cracks anywhere.
It’s pretty funny - half my friends were like woah that was awesome! And the other half were terrified.

I had some friends send some videos from cams they had inside and outside their houses and it was no joke. The noise was pretty intense as was the shaking… I’m honestly kinda bummed I missed that experience. Intense is maybe not quite the word... I'll go with terrifying. I'm about 18 miles by the crow from the epicenter... was in a 2nd floor bedroom. Everyone talks about the shaking & movement... but the noise... nobodies really talked about the noise. There was a wicked crack and bang. Percussive. Hit 'ya in the chest. The only thing I could compare it to would be tannerite or other high explosives. (had some friends that lived on a farm, they loved the boom) Then... then the rumble started. Deafening roar. Had to be at least 105-110 dB. No joke. Insanely loud. Full on rock & roll concert loud. Louder??! With all the air traffic above us day & night I thought a plane fell out of the sky and hit the ground 3 blocks over. Wiped everything out. Crack boom rumble. Holy guacamole. Then everything stopped. Back to dead nuts digital silence. Even the birds stopped chirping for a minute. Crazy weird feeling. The noise though... neighbor owns a legit racecar. Street legal muscle. I was sorting trash this afternoon and he started that thing up in his garage 100 feet away. Yeah, no contest. Then I'm at the curb... waved to each other from about 3 feet as he rolled past... Yeah no. And that's a loud ass car. Remember back in my Mercenary years, talking about frequency response & usable range... that sort of thing and Fletcher said there's really only two things that make a solid 20Hz. Really big motors with straight pipes and earthquakes. Well, now I can cross that unsettling feeling off my bucket list! Damage here was basically nothing. Small crack in the basement slab. Couple towns over there was a water main break that really messed up traffic & put the whole town under boil water alert for a couple days. Things like that so not to say zero impact but minimal. And btw - the quake was in New Jersey not New York. New York always gets all the credit... executive producer style while we do all the work.
