I have a 4 space rack with a Purple Action, Standard Audio Level-Or and a Beireich03 Bax EQ. I dig 'em all. The Level-Or gets used the least.

only listing those I actually have...
1. Audio Maintenance Limited 5003D - I wasn't sure about putting this first but I use it on almost every vocal track so I guess so. 2. Hairball Copper - I have 3 of these - if I don't use the 5003D, then these are 2nd. Great on everything. 3. A-Designs P-1 - I've had a pair of these on overhead duty for years, nice on acoustic guitar, but great for just about anything 4. A-Designs EM Gold - one of my favorite for bass guitar, but also great on toms, guitars, even on vocals 5. Avedis MA-5 - I've had this on kick drum duty ever since I got it. 6. A-Designs EM Red - great on toms. Was toss-up between this and the CAPI VP312s.
I've got a bunch more. I've had some non-preamp 500 modules but not right now. Radial EXTC might be the only one I regret selling.
edit: and you didn't ask for it, but here's a few I owned for awhile and why I left them...
OSA (old school audio) MP1C - These were actually my first 500 modules. They are API 312 clones that are actually pretty good but I got some CAPI Golden Age Pre (GAP) 573 - the original red ones. Lots of features but only OK and maybe noisy. had the companion EQ too. Vintech 573 - once I got the Copper Hairballs I didn't use these anymore Bart HRK MP568C - had a pair of these for a while (GT and British console modules). Similar to the DIYRE color palette, but I didn't use them that often Nsonic N73 Pre - had to try it since it was $150, but nothing special Aphex JPre - good utility pre but I had only one and gave it up to get a pair of something else. Meris 440 - was thinking I might be able to use this like an EXTC, but it's really for putting pedals in the recording chain and not for processing later. decent API-style pre FiveFish SC-1mk500 - had a pair of these. Very clean but the Focusrite ISA-Two did the same for me and had more features. Radial EXTC - might have to get one of these again some day Danfield MX20vpr - this was a fantastic, clean pre with tons of gain, but unfortunately I only had one and could not find another (out of business) Radial Komit - fun diode compressor but a pretty specific sound (I heard the originals were better?) PeterC 5003 EQ (clone of an API 553) - only had one and didn't use it much. noisy as well. a couple different Eisen Audio pres - can't remember details... Warm WA12 - only had one so went for a pair of something else

I have 6 500 series modules but it’s really a pair of [IAA QP5 - CAPI VC 528 “missing link” - Eletrodyne 511 EQ]. You can track some serious shit with them.

1. Retro 500PRE 2. AEA RPQ500 3. Trident HiLo 4. Rolls VacBax 5. Pynamic PWM Comp 6. TubeDrve Saturator
I'll usually use 1 & 3-5 or 2-6 in a chain for vox and instruments. Since the TubeDrve is two channels I'll sometimes run one channel into the second with a bit of each of the triode (heavy bias) and pentode (light bias) and mix knob at about 9 o'clock.

1. Serpent SA76-500- Perhaps THE top 500 series piece. There is a reason why its already been mentioned several times in this thread. Everyone with a 500 series rack should have one (if they don't already have the rack unit!). 2. API 550A- Classic, flexible, but won't get you in trouble. More than EQ, it does cool things to drum transients, tightens up bass, and de-harshes pointy acoustics. 3. API 560- Drums, guitars, bass. Covers the EQ points that its knobbed-brethern miss. 4. Avedis MA5- Neve flavor without the murk. Killer on vocals, bass, snare, kick, electric guitars. 5. Chandler TG-2- If you have a source that lives in the midrange, this is your guy. Detail, vibe. 6. Avedis E27- Ferrari of console-style EQs.
Honorable mentions:
CAPI VP28 Platinum- Chunky little fella with great features. DI and HPF are always useful. Maag EQ4- Airband is worth its weight in gold, BUT the rest of it is take it or leave it, IMO.

1. Avedis E27 - unique blend, nothing really sounds like it 2. Mother VIVID EQ - Very experienced guys from Serbia make this one. Excellent excellent inductor EQ with handwound transformers. Blasphemy but like a much improved Curve Bender band. 3. Standard Stretch - Dolby trick on steroids. If you want something to really stand out in a mix, this is the ticket. It adds to your vocabulary. Crazy but oddly flexible too. 4. Kush Electra - Still probably the easiest search and destroy / boost EQ. Not vibey but very much a reflection of the user and smooth no matter what you do. 5. Skibbe 736-5 - Still love this take on the Flickinger sound. It doesn’t seem like the other Flick pres have the same punch.
6. DeadFX GB-1 - Allison Gain Brain clone. Solid, smashy compressor but capable of being subtle.
Honorable mentions: I loved the FCS Pico compressor - another one of the few 500 series comps I liked. I have custom JCF stuff that’s excellent. Avedis and Mother make preamps I love. The UTA and Pultec 500 series EQs are terrific. I’d like to see more weird, unique modules - maybe more of a euro-rack mentality. We’ll get there. Singular Audio seems to be one of the few meeting those needs.

Just look up all the 500 series available. Because enough people answer that’s what the thread will be a very, very long list 1. BAE 1703D 2. RPQ 500 3. Neve 88LB (love this pre and the desk it’s from) 4. API 512v 5. API 550 6. API 560 Compression I prefer in full size 19” rack units with dedicated PSU.

500 series mania is thankfully over.
API 550A (or B) and other API equipment. Avedis E27 DBX 520 and 560 RNC 500 is very good and sounds better than the project box 1/3rd rack one. DIYRE Colour Modules 500 series

I want to build some old limiters. Sadly 500 series just became a dumping ground for cut down designs instead of cool but limited new designs.

I have a few different units but the jury is still out for if I like them or not. The first 2 are definitely keepers though. I have multiples of them.
1. Great River MP-500NV mic pre's. Killer! 2. Capi BT50 EQ's. Excellent! 3. SSL UltraViolet stereo EQ. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't and haven't decided what it works best for yet. Been using it on my 2 buss and it does the job but often think I might like something else better. 4. dbx 550A compressor. I haven't used this enough yet to know if I like it or not.

I haven’t managed to find any detailed info on it. thanks! It’s fat & warm & colored. Sounds great. It definitely reduces transients and sounds nostalgic. Can also be overdriven if desired. As advertised, it is inspired by the retro STA-Level, so although it is a mic pre, it comes from that family of sound. Definitely a great sounding detailed tube preamp and versatile. Can’t think of anything in 500 series that outdoes it for tube sound. It’s built like a tank.
