At this point there are a number of decent contenders at almost every price point. The good news is you don’t have to spend Telefunken USA money, the bad news is you have a lot to consider. That does seem to be the case. I am leaning towards the Beesneez release but I just don’t know enough about it to make an informed decision PM Ben / Mics, he builds fantastic mics at excellent prices and if he has the time no problem giving you honest input, no disrespect of Flea, Upton, Lawson, Heisermann, Signal Arts or others.

He sent me a PM, I responded. Just waiting on a response from him but if he’s based in Australia I think it’s night time

If you're in EU David and NLP Audio should be mentioned. I know he's working on a new version. Only uses top components and capsules from known manufacturers. I don't know how many tests he has send me but he's very thorough in his testing when he develops his mics. Also for folks in the US. That where I am and David was exceptionally helpful in facilitating the purchase process directly from him. Purchase was very smooth, communication was stellar and the item was packed safe enough for a trip to Mars. He even offered a 14 day money back trial, which I didn't need because it sounds exactly like what I was hoping for. I can't speak to comparisons and which is the "best" clone but the NLP 251 has fantastic rich tone with a well balanced top end (I got the EU capsule version with the 5 star 6072 GE tube),

Sure. You can also email David through his site to confirm, he's been very responsive. It was 2750 EUR for the mic + 150 EUR shipping + 100 EUR to cover PayPal fees. So 3K EUR altogether.

We're quite happy with our OPR Ultralux 251.

If you’re after the most true-to-the-original clone, it’s probably the Heiserman or Tele USA.
But if you just want a really good sounding 251, it’s more of a preference thing. From what I can tell, they pretty much all get you there, even the more affordable options like GAP and Lawson.
Personally, I love my Upton 251. I’ve said it a million times but it’s absolutely my favorite mic I’ve ever used by a landslide.

I’ve had my B67-269 V2 for a week, and it really is a fantastic mic. So I’m also very excited to see what Ben does with his, especially if it’s at a better price point than some of the others. The Heiserman or the FleA are totally dream mics. I just don’t have the cash for either of them. lol.

I am happy with the Stam 251. Especially for the price. Did an A/B against a Tele 251. The Stam wasn't as thick sounding but sounded great.

+1 for the Upton +1 for the OPR +1 for the Bock +1 for the BSA +1 for the Stam +1 for the ADK +1 for the Dany Poptop one +1 for SAE model. Look they all had advantages and mild drawbacks. Just buy whatever your budget affords and just get on with it. Whats the point of having the best mics and the worst singers. Maybe I need coffee as I am not feeling it so much today !

Hahahaha I feel you, I merely just wanted to get folks opinions. The mic in this case is for myself. I purchased a U67 for my clients, since I find it’s a neutral sounding mic on people. I’m a singer myself and the 67 doesn’t do anything particularly magical to my voice but the 251 sure as hell does. Honestly though, I’m happy I asked because i’m being educated on all the options and doing my due diligence. I’m currently leaning towards the upcoming beesneez

What did you decide on? I'm facing a similar decision and the bn251 is my favorite. But unfortunately there is still nothing about the microphone. Neither a review nor audio files.

As an alternative and JME, source and buy as close to the original parts yourself and build/get someone to build you one on poctops pcb set over at GDIY, I x2 purchased NOS Beyschlage resistors, NOS wet tantalums, NOS haufe transformers, tim campbell CT12's, I used the highest quality caps and resistors that i couldn't find in original form, and 5 star orange ink GE6072 tubes, I bought the clone bodies from china, these mics sound just awesome and are as close to originals as you can get over any modern recreation available retail, and they cost me about $1,500 each

It’s about to be Beesneez. Half the price double the authenticity. Until then I’d only buy a Heiserman. Damn that looks good and so much cheaper! Now I wanna get me a 47Tube AND the BN251 (drooling).

paulcheeba have you had a chance to run the H251 and BN251 through their paces yet? What are your thoughts on them? How do they compare to each other?

If you are looking another option. I had Chad make me a custom 47.
It was just as good as my Heisermenn H47T that I sold my H47T which more then paid for the build.
And it took less then a year to make. Shorter wait time then Heisermen

Not to derail this 251 thread but just to chime in... I also got one of Chad's U47s with the Heiserman capsule. It's lovely! It sounds fantastic. I've never experienced a vintage U47 in person, but this mic is exactly what I was going for and is mine for life. It perfectly fills a gap in my mic locker. The gutz look gorgeous as well with premium components and lots of care on the layout. I got the one with the pattern switch on the PSU. Highly recommended.
