Hello everyone, this is my first post on here. I’m in search of a 251 for myself. There are so many options that it can be a bit overwhelming so I’m hoping you guys can help educate me a bit. The 251 is my dream mic so I want what ever is the closest to an original.
At the top of my list I have: FLeA ELAM 251 (Not crazy about the body color, but I read it’s meant to be a 1:1 clone) UPTON 251 (Love the look, Dallas Upton has a great reputation, more affordable then most of the clones i’m eyeing, Not sure if it is meant to be a 1:1 Clone because of the connector at the bottom being different) Heiserman H251 (I believe it’s meant to be a 1:1 clone and people rave about it. Most expensive clone on my radar. The only sucky thing is to obtain it I’d realistically want to put half the money down so financing it doesn’t hurt as much)
I’m open to other suggestions but looks do matter to me, which is why I’m not crazy about the Bock.
Thank you guys!!

The Heiserman seems to be the favorite over and over. So it’s not just hype?

Heiserman is probably a safe bet. However, Beesneez is coming out with some 251s that will likely be awesome given how great his capsule is. I believe the Beesneez is a limited number though. I am not sure what the wait time is on the Heiserman but here is an open box one: reverb.com/item/80983897-heiserman-audio-h251-open-box-full-warranty I do not know the seller. I also see some used Flea 251s and a used Upton on reverb. Honestly, I find it a little risky to buy a used expensive mic off of reverb.

It’s about to be Beesneez. Half the price double the authenticity. Until then I’d only buy a Heiserman.

We will have 30 of our 251 mics ready to ship next month with another 100 for shipping that will be regularly shipping between July and the end of the year.[. As with our entire line up, we will aim to always carry stock for immediate shipping. We still have some left from the first 30 that haven’t been earmarked yet. Cheers

I would second Beesneez. After messing with Vanguard V24 mic that used Ben’s capsules, I think they’re making the best capsule for that type of mic (and that’s the most important part of that design). Their C12 is like a fraction of the price of some of the other suggestions in here, and you’re not going to miss out on build or quality.

Didn’t know they were coming out with a clone 😀 I’ve never personally used their mics but they seem to have a great reputation

I read another huge thread that had people raving about the Heiserman. The price is still a hard pill to swallow, I can do it but it will delay my other major studio upgrade significantly. I know ultimately it doesn’t matter but I like the idea of a mic looking like what it’s copying. I know it’s a dumb reason and i’ll get crap for it but It’s my personal taste

If you're in EU David and NLP Audio should be mentioned. I know he's working on a new version. Only uses top components and capsules from known manufacturers. I don't know how many tests he has send me but he's very thorough in his testing when he develops his mics.

My friend CW makes the best 251 clone. We had a shootout with three dozend pretty good mics and IMHO, his 251 stole the show. Maybe he builds one for you if you ask nicely.

I am not sure what the wait time is on the Heiserman The wait time is quite long. I would reach out to Heiserman before ordering and make sure you're comfortable with the estimate.

At this point there are a number of decent contenders at almost every price point. The good news is you don’t have to spend Telefunken USA money, the bad news is you have a lot to consider.

That does seem to be the case. I am leaning towards the Beesneez release but I just don’t know enough about it to make an informed decision
