I did some studio consulting at a fellow drummer's recording place. Tune monitors, place drum mikes, set levels. etc.
It was a small room, turn the drum stood one way and you're drumming, and the other you're in the mix position. It was a live sounding set of drums in a small room with a powerful solid drummer. Basically a Sonic Drum Cube.
There were a set of KRK VXT8 Monitors on a desk, placed close to the wall, switched them to 1/2 space, and flattened the treble boost. I played back some of my analog mixes and I was surprised how I was able to hear things I hadn't heard before. Depth, separation, layering. Balanced sound. Anybody here listening or own a pair? Comments?

I’ve used the vxt 4 and 6. The Krk v6s4 and v8s4 are also good. I use the Krk v6s4 right now and am on my warranty replacement pair. They sound like a mix of old KRKs and Focal Kevlar car systems and old B&Ws.
The problem is the electronics are fragile chinese OEM plateamps.
Later Focal monitors have more detail but less of a coherent sound. The Beryllium tweeter Focals noticeably more. The old solos have some muddy resonances too that the Arias and Shapes don’t. Those two are warmer like the KRKs but the alu-mag alloy tweeter is even more damped than the KRK’s Kevlar dome. The new ST6 eliminates the cabinet resonances and keeps the Kevlar dome. Focal is still innovating despite private equity owners. Maybe the made them fix the build problems with their speakers.

So they need top of the line sound and they own a company that makes everything but the amps themselves, so larger margins. Think of how many highly regarded amp manufacturers Samsung/ Harman owns/ owned and all the crappy plate amps.
