This has been a shitty month. Now all of a sudden, My Apollo is passing no sound and has nothing on the meters. I turned my whole studio off about two hours ago, but needed to hear something. I turn everything on and nothing. No meters so either nothing is getting to the Apollo from the computer…it’s selected in sys prefs/sound…that’s all I’ve ever had to do before…
Anyone heard of Apollos just conking out?

Nothing to offer but sympathy, man. Damn. Hope it’s a simple fix.

Change ports on the back of the Apollo, as well as your computer. Restart computer, try again. See if the Console app will at least recognize the Apollo if that doesn’t work, might narrow it down to a cable issue or something stupid.

I had to step away…will probably try tomorrow. But the Apollo is connecting - there’s just no sound nothing in the meters app of a sudden. I’m going to try a HW reset.

Drag. I would disconnect and reconnect all its cabling even power, then power up and check then try hardware reset and yes from time to time on UA forum, I have read of a few Apollos just failing.

I have had mine do weird stuff before (although there are many differences in our setups), but I just shut everything off and tried again and then it would come up fine. At least twice it's looked like everything was fine but when I hit record, nothing recorded. just silence. And that's really embarrassing so I'm glad it was just me alone trying to record drum tracks. Pro Tools had no idea anything was wrong. But 5 minutes later (after complete power off and back on) then it was fine. Yay prosumers!

My...ahem...Apollo routing was all blank. No idea why. Just reset. So it's working now, thank God.

Well, this is no good. I just rebooted and all the IO settings were gone again. Maybe I didn't save after...hmmm.

John, does the Apollo have a CMOS battery back up like a motherboard in a PC.
When my motherboards start forgetting the BIOS configurations I swop out the little CR2302 battery and all is good again.
Perhaps the Apollo has a little logic board back-up battery?

What DAW do you use? Did you update recently? Might be trying to read I/O info from the DAW settings and there’s a communication snafu happening. I’ve had this happen twice when updating ProTools.

There was a pt bug about 5 years ago, where it would forget its set I/o. I used to have it regularly also with an Apollo.

I’ve never encountered that bug per se. But when you open sessions from other systems it will default to their IO settings and eff stuff up.

Reset them! Mines done it a few times.
It’s button combinations you have to press.
Btw: I find using Faronics deep freeze so valuable ….. just locks the computer in the state it’s in. No virus. No updates. Just works.
