The IRL view from me is whatever gets you to the sound in your head with the least amount of stress or hassle is the way to go. That's a personal, very subjective journey and how it's achieved only matters to the one pushing or clicking the buttons. For example Carbon won't work for many, I understand that but when I'm recording it only really has to work for me.
As I've said on quite a few occasions it doesn't leave much to talk about though in a pro audio sense and even quite a few of the AE's I personally know don't fuss that much about what they use unless there's a problem. So we tend to talk more about music in general as opposed to the equipment itself.
