I have their Buss comp, Opto, and V-Comp+. Had the 76F. A great comp as well, but didn't gel with my style. I sing more ballad not rock, and both the Opto and V-Comp do great things depending on the mic and the song. I use them primarily during tracking. Regarding the Opto, the T4B options from Kenetek provide some flexibility, and swapping the stock NOS GE/RCA Greyplate or Blackplate 12AX7 in V1 with a NOS Tele 12AX7 just does some unique and wonderful things. Hard to pick a favorite as they each have their place, but I'd lean towards the V-Comp if I had to pick just one.

I have a 260 VU on the way.
Pretty excited about this one.
I am recording alot of this current record to 1/2" tape and I regret selling my 160 years ago.

To those that have tried both on male vocals (rock crooning-style) Opto or V-Comp+ ? At 60 years old I'm now a Bari-Tenor (new trendy voice classification I've been seeing on the www :-) I have the AS Opto Comp and a Retro STA Level (V-Comp equivalent) and a Thermionic Phoenix MP (dual mono vari-mu) And for with a CM7 (U47 clone) I far prefer the STA Level and Phoenix on my vocals to the Opto Comp. The Opto Comp is great I'm just not a huge fan for male vocals (I'm not keen on the CL1B either) So my vote goes to the V -Comp.

V comp for me. But its the only piece of AS gear I have. And I consider myself lucky to have it.
Cheers, Geoff

I have no favorite. They all see frequent use here depending on my needs of the day. (2) V Comps, (2) EQP's, (1) Buss Comp, (1) D Comp, (1) Opto Comp. All fantastic.

Nope. Just the one. Cheers, Geoff What’s you main usage case? Tbh I have done very little recording since I got it, am only kinda sorta getting back in the saddle. But during my hiatus I did buy some stuff, this being one of them. That said, vocals, bass. I have a pretty thin, reedy voice and it needs all the kelp I can give it, so the low mid thickness the V comp adds is welcome. Might not work on every voice though. Mmm kelp. And it can do quite a bit of gain reduction without getting too artifacty. But it definitely has a tone. And am sure it will be used on synth or vst stuff to add a bit of tube and transistor goodness even if not digging into the compression much if at all. Just running through it. Cheers, Geoff
