www.stereophile.com/content/ayre-acoustics-qa-9-usb-ad-converterMy mastering buddy introduced me to this brand yesterday. Been around for a while so the article is old but I found the tech and implementation behind it interesting. The YouTube video covers the same info and gives the impression they're moving into the pro audio realm soonish. Some of the hifi stuff is crazy expensive but some searches of old eBay and Reverb sales of the AD and DA look like they fall in the range of what we're used to.

Happened to stumble upon the Ayre ADC recently and was looking to see if anyone has used this before. Darren Boling, did you get a chance to listen to your buddy's Ayre by any chance?

Darren Boling , did you get a chance to listen to your buddy's Ayre by any chance? I did, it's really impressive. He mastered a song for me and also shared some blind A/B's vs a Lavry Gold MK3. I wouldn't ever kick a MK3 out of bed but in comparison the Ayre was taller, wider, and deeper and without the MK3 sheen (which on some of the material could be preferred). It was a bigger difference than I expected and was able to identify each in the blind test without having to squint my ears. I'd love to spend some time with it on my own vs the Prisms to really learn about it, I have a hunch it'd also be an amazing tracking AD. I wrote in to Ayre and it sounds like they are indeed going to start moving more into pro audio and are using this final run of QA-9's (limited by the Arda chip it uses) to raise awareness. Even with different chips I'm very interested to see what pro audio devices they come up with, hoping for at least a 2 in/4 out, or even better an 8ch ADA.

Oh boy.. I initially thought it was 6800 canadian dollarydoos, but you're right. Who needs pants and a shirt when you've got quality conversion.

Yeah, not sure why it's $2k more than what it used to be but I'm hoping their pro audio line will be a bit more in line with my wallet.

When high end hi-fi gets close to studio gear, I do a disregard. I do not pay high end hi-fi prices. I do not endorse aspirational pricing. Good Day.

I finally got to do a day in the studio with this last Thursday. I wasn't driving the mastering session but was able to see the ridiculous level you could clip the Ayre without it crapping out, way past the level anyone would use it'd still stay big and open. There wasn't any time to compare (I'd love to hear it against my 8XR and/or Titan sometime so I have a reference) but in some quick tests outside of the work being done everything sounded amazing.
