This thing is pretty damn awesome. I actually had to send one back because of an issue, but they were super prompt and helpful. The Pulsar plug is pretty damn killer. Very, very close to the hardware. The HW does something “more” though. Idk exactly what it is, but I think it’s in the attack. (Same with all SW comps imo) I can completely eliminate the transient with the fastest attack with the HW…the software seems to be doing it, it just doesn’t do it as well as the HW. I also seem to get more lower volume info - e.g. with drums - I hear more cymbals compressing the same amount with the HW…like it’s doing what it’s supposed to be doing. So I guess you could say the plugin works and the HW does it even better. Shocker. This thing does seem like the perfect Drumbus comp. Great control/versatility and it can get as dirty as needs be. Highly recommend. I’m also actually using this for vocal comp too in place of the 76F (which I really like a lot)…seems to be a little more transparent. Cool, thanks for the report! I've always wanted to try an 1178 on vocals based off of Bob Clearmountain using it there.

Circuit modeled compressors will distort a lot more internally than compressors that aim for low internal distortion like the Weiss ds1 (does some things weirdly but sounds great) and Kotelnikov ge (less weird and less of a sound) too just to name some ones most people have capable of stupid fast attacks
