Anyone here have any experience and opinions about API's SR22 stereo compressor? Is it meant to be a buss compressor or just used as a stereo utility unit? Gotta line on one and never used one. Also looking at an API SR24 EQ.

No opinions either in the purple forum. It seems to be the same compressor found in the API Paragon live console.

It's a rebranded Arsenal Audio/JDK R22

Looks like an API made stereo dbx 160. These types of RMS compressors are are usually made with a couple of THAT ICs and sometimes a more complex sidechain adapted from the THAT notes. They are relatively cheap to make (not as cheap as cheap FET / BJT compressors) and can sound great.

yeah it sounds like a smoother dbx 160 in the video including the tendency of rms compression to take the top end and bottom end off and ping pong up snares because it works on an average of the signal (not peaks) and cannot speed up enough to release fast enough and holds them down. this pushes down the wires. the thrust circuit stops the crazy pumping on two bus in the video. it's cool that vca compressors seem to be coming back with this, the rnd stuff, and the daking comp ii.
that's why the drawmer dl251, aphex expressor, u-he presswerk, and softube vca compressors have high frequency expanders post compression and others speed up release for high frequencies like the pro audio dsp dsm and kotelnikov.

I had the JDK Version and it was useful. Does what it was supposed to, and was well made… but for me having more ‘vibe’ is what I usually want from an outboard compressor. I sold it.
I’m guessing they rebranded it as an API piece to boost sales

I’m guessing they rebranded it as an API piece to boost sales Well they rebranded First because Arsenal was a Trademark of JVC, and they got sued JDK was a place filler. Then they realized Branding everything API was a smart move because everyone knows API.
