Very cool. Trash was one of the few iZotope plugs I never got along with for whatever reason. I remember being inspired to try it after watching Dave Pensado use it, but it just didn’t suit my tastes. Would love to give this new version a go.

Trash was an apt name. As much as I wished it would work, it never did for me. If seawell likes it, maybe I'll give it a try again, but otherwise, I'll pass.

I found Trash 1 and 2 to be good for creative mangling, and sometimes for subtle stuff too. It was an effective bass/key amp sim if you set it right.
I actually think having less features is a positive thing. It had too many options before IMO. I’m eager to give it a spin.

A similar plugin I’ve always loved is the old McDsp Futzbox. One of my favorite distortion plugins, and still holds its own against a ton of modern releases IMO.
Anyway, I’m still going to give the new Trash a try.

Trash 2 got by replaced by RC-20 for the crappy lofi hip hop standard tool. Trash was crazier but RC-20 is easier for those guys to use even though it sounds like crap. They don't know anything so it's an easy way for them to change the sound.

Based on reports at the purple place, this reboot has the same distortion options without oversampling, and otherwise is just a repackaging of a slimmed-down Trash 2. Luckily, the oldie still works fine on my system when I need it.

I really wish ever plugin company wouldn't spend so much time on making things sound shitty. I went through a Tchad Blake phase and dig messing shit up for fun and profit, but it just feels like that the only 'new' thing anyone is doing. I know that's not true, of course, but...

I still have my Trash 2 license, and I think you can still find the installer on a legacy page if you dig, but I have to go digging into my backups for the expansions because I own those as well but I think izotope removed them sometime ago.
I was thinking about the new one but since I still have what I need to run the old one I'm glad people weighed in here.
Some of those expansion presets/IRs (classroom projector is one that comes to mind) really had their charm. There was also one called '80s synth noise floor that was excellent for putting some hair on soft synths.

I know that's not true, of course, but... their version of shitty is worse than old lo-fi. like this stuff is more lofi than memphis rap done to cassette or the dilla and madlib stuff that all went through the boss vinyl sim comp (modernized version is vulf comp). madlib's stuff with freddie gibbs is hi-fi and sounds modern compared to the "lofi hip hop" internet genre. and for everyone complaining about sampling, i've found a ton of good music where the only modern commercial exposure is from rap. there is a ton of world music that's great that isn't on cd at all or that had one cd 30 years ago.

Trash 2 is a really deep plugin. There's so much choice in there you really need to learn your way around finding what is what. And I always thought the GUI was so small and hard to read, not to mention a bit overwhelming, that I just stopped trying it. The new GUI intrigues me to check it out. But I'm kind of over them wanting more money for basically something that is just a bit reworked and reorganized, but same product. It's like the design wasn't great in the first place and now you want me to pay extra for you getting it right.

I had the original. The distortion sounds were horrid.
