www.xqpaudio.net/They’ve been around for a long time, but it’s near impossible to find sound clips/experience with these. Particularly interested in the two compressor modules.

I recall looking at the optical deesser a while back but never pulled the trigger. Ended up getting the Empirical Labs Derresser for the HF Limit function. Just reread all the features of the XQP 2531 and listened to the examples. It had some nice features, I like the idea of rotary switches not pots and it sounds stellar. Just purchased one and looking forward to digging in! Thanks for the heads up.

I have 2 spots left in one of my lunchboxes, and I don’t need something super high end. Just want a good tracking opto. The optical disruptor thing looks super cool too.

Consider talking to Warren Dent at Zen Pro Audio. He knows a lot about these. I bought the de-essers from him and they are great. I had the Empirical Labs but like the XQPs better.

I've been countenancing getting into VO work and that looks like the perfect set up. Mostl likely I'd actually just have to rely on gear that is already on hand, but if I ever went full-scale VO work I'd want a dedicated mono console such as that. Looks wonderful! The overall zeitgeist of the comp, the deesser and the disruptor seem similar and so I'd like to figure out how each of them work their magic. Consider talking to Warren Dent at Zen Pro Audio. He knows a lot about these. I bought the de-essers from him and they are great. I had the Empirical Labs but like the XQPs better. Cool to hear. Thanks! Will definitely reach out, as mentioned above I'm hoping to better figure the use of each of these tools. I'm definitely keen to check the XQP deesser vs the DerEsser. The EL deresser is a bit sharp and unsubtle, although I do adore it's HF Limit function.

I’ve been using their Colorupter colour cards for a year or 2 which is a smaller version of their 500 device the 545 Optical Disruptor and love them but not for everything as they saturate quite quickly. That said when they work they are a great flavour and not like anything else I’ve heard.
At the recent direction of Peterson from DIYRE I installed a 2K trimpot in the R3 location on one to better match the stereo gain as the vactoral thingy (very technical) these cards have are somewhat unpredictable.
Looked at their deesser but ended up getting a good deal on a Derresser.

I checked out some samples on the clipalator. The standard optical is really nice. Very clean. Could be cool, but maybe too clean for my tastes. The disruptor is really hip, but maybe too dirty? I know that's the point lol. I also have my eye on the Serpent Chimera for an LA3A kind of vibe. I've always dug 3A's more than 2A's. Maybe the Audioscape could work in that spot as well. Anyone every compare the two?

Never compared the two but if you’re looking for a LA3A sort of thing I can recommend the JLM LA500A. After reading very positive reports about them for some years I’ve just built one and I can say the same. You can buy them built also. They are a really nice’3A style flavour with some more versatility than the original. Excellent support from the owner Joe Malone as well. I own a few of their pieces now and like them all very much.

Nice…I actually just grabbed one of the Audioscapes on Reverb. Looking forward to checking it out! I also talked to Warren at Zenpro today. Apparently Xqp are not really making the optical compressors anymore so that ended that search!

Did Warren mention what modules they were still making? I have one of the 2531's and maybe I should pick up a few more if they're getting discontinued...

He said they have plenty of the de-essers still!
