Anybody heard/had it’s yami hs8 mod?
Full set of new speakers with mod for $999.

I have them and like them. I purchased with the mod, so never compared "before and after". I use the matching sub (2 of them-no mods) with Dirac, but I liked them before I used Dirac as well.

There are a number of before and after comparisons reviews on their site, all prefer mods.
How balanced are just the speakers, is the bass controlled, not boomy flabby?

To me the low end is pretty tight and not flabby. I found the low end a little lacking, so added the subs.

I have them too Kcat and were purchased quite a few years ago now, I'd agree with third eye's description that the low end is pretty tight and not flabby and would add in my room the low end is not lacking and seems pretty balanced.

What We Do
Stock op-amps are replaced with Burr Brown brand (which delivers over 10x the slew rate, increasing detail and clarity)
Electrolytic capacitors in the signal path are replaced with Panasonic low ESR type caps, in combination with high quality WIMA polypropylene caps
Limiter circuit is disabled (preventing compression of the bass response, and allowing midrange transients the ability to punch)

And also allows you to blow the speaker, especially when using additive room compensation. |

Usually I'd agree but some monitors don't get that get loud before hitting their limiter, one or two Genelec's I've come across are like that. With the Core 59's for example in a near / mid setup the limit would be your ear drums popping as brain matter drips down your shoulders  .. It really depends how powerful the HS8's are. |

Heard the modded version once, they sounded like cleaner HS8’s that went a bit lower. I would not buy a pair with the idea of modding them, if I had a pair maybe. I just remember thinking the money would be better spent on better speakers and amps.
