I got the following email from Softube.
Either they think they’re customers are idiots or was there a memo I missed about they’re being only a 1000 made?

They are an interesting tool, but getting expensive.

They are an interesting tool, but getting expensive. Yeah, but console MK1’s are getting cheap used and honestly it is probably the dedicated plugin controller with the most plugs available out of the box.

They're making a new run of them and I guess they made 1000 because they judged that's how many they can sell. They're well built units. The SSL ones that are even less popular are dying. The system is very limited when it comes to modern recording and mixing and they've released the good but digitally sounding API "American Class A" (sic) and cooler sounding Neve "British Class A" as native plugins already that don't need the console 1. They've also had issues integrating them into pro tools and some other daws.
The best controller still made is still the scrappy little Eucon S1 that gives you some faders to ride, no midi, and doesn't get in the way unlike the bigger ones. The S3 is gone. The bigger ones are too big and cannot replace a screen. It's a dead market.
Turning knobs on console 1 is far slower than just drawing the eq in Weiss EP MP too. The drawable EQs are faster but have a tendency to over eq and not get as cool filters as more limited eqs and maybe having to use 2-3 channels of them on a problematic track to do the job.

I really like my MKII. It ebbs and flows in terms of how much I use it but it's worth the $350 that it goes for these days. When the MKIII was first announced I wondered if the few legitimate upgrades would justify the increased cost and I'm still wondering.
90% of the time my Console One gets used for HPF/LPF tweaks, quick EQ adjustments, and quick saturation adjustments. All of that works just fine on the MKII plus I've already got a nifty looking wooden box built for it. And that gives it a warmer, analog tone.

Yeah I have noticed since building the Zebra Wood dog house for the DM1000 for the live rig it’s warmed up considerably 😁

If you want to rebuy lots of plugs or buy new to use it. I had the mki, don’t think I would rebuy and wouldn’t buy the mkii, , too expensive now

When I got the wooden box for the Console One I did a REW measurement of my room and the vibeyness was up by 2db - 4db across the whole frequency range while the digitaliness was down -3db starting at about 6khz. Your mileage my vary.

I do know on the DDA reclaimed oak from Whiskey Barrels gave all the Vocals a Chris Stapleton or Tom Waits Quality 😁

There's a lot of stuff that's excellent and not hype that sells for insane prices used. My local distributor of the mk 1 and mk 2 didn't even stock the mk 3.

A 1000 units is actually quite a lot, manny a manufacturer would kill for 1000 unit sales. The number may be based on sales of the first 2 or it could be Mark 4 is already in development.
A key as to long term plans will be if they support the UA Spark narrative plugins, this also might influence development they may need a less expensive version for this market.

My question is whether Console 1 (any version) can control UAD native plugins. Or is it just the +DSP versions that it works with? I seem to recall reading it only worked with the versions that require UAD hardware.

I plucked the number 1000 out of thin air in my original post. It was a guess! Maybe they made 500 or 5000 …. who knows? Either way, I thought the marketing was BS!
