Got the SPL Big in…waiting for some installers to leave then I’m gonna plug her up. But was just kind of thinking where I’d actually place this in my chain. My master chain is usually (I know I know I shouldn’t master in the same session. But I do if I can..) console emu—MusEQ—compressor (Cap Comp or Iron)—Ozone—another limiter or clipper…
Should I start routing everything to an AUX and use that to add the first three and then insert the Big…then to master with Ozone and Stealth or whatever? Didn’t know if there were dos and don’ts.

Didn’t know if there were dos and don’ts. Back when I was using the SPL summer I’d just have their widener on master buss since that’s how that box works. My buddy who co-owns that studio told me he stopped using the SPL when he realized he preferred to pick and choose what went to the widener. So these days I widen stunt stuff aggressively (synth pads, for example) to fit the track as needed, and then I run Aspect Ratio on my master via the Silver Bullet plug. Both can work, I guess I’d probably start with an aux and see how it goes. I don’t want my dry lead vocal too wide, for example. But I might want to widen certain vocal effects. Grains of salt cuz my mixing style probably isn’t for everybody.

Sometimes some stereo recordings of some tracks could benefit from a little widening whereas the whole mix would not. And sometimes the whole mix needs it. Because plugs can do this, it is great to be able to experiment. I do get a minor widening effect from my dramstic audio obsidian on the 2 buss and it does not ever seem to do any harm (my obsidian is transformerless so I do not get a smear on it.) And of course, as mentioned, there is the SBii aspect ratio.
As to chain on the two buss, I would prefer to have the stereo widening last, but I am curious if others think there is some benefit to putting a stereo widening effect before a compressor or eq on the 2 buss.

Anytime I've ever used, or in my assistant days patched a stereo phase box it was never across the stereo master and always on selected sources within the mix...
Common applications - Patch across outputs of main reverb to make it super drippy... making the drums & synths in the breakdown of that one song completely wrap around the listeners head for 8 bars... vocal effects that want to ping pong & wrap around the listeners heads...
Never across the whole mix. That was like instant drain O. If that kinda spot needs work there are far better choices... like M/S mode on a fairchild emulation. Way less damaging.

Well, I've always avoided that...but that's what this was designed for, so I'm giving it a shot...
