And, yeah…I saw the Colt Capperrune video Looks cool, gimmick? You’ll have to give us a review. I never cared for any software stereo widening in software, tread very lightly…I imagine the hardware is useable. I like SPL they make cool products like the transient designer👍🏻 That money could’ve went towards a Sta-Level!😆😆😆😆

I'm really interested in ordering one too. The price is reasonable and it may be really effective to make a subgroup or something like FX returns have a distinct dimension in a mix.
The demos on a full mix seemed overcooked, but just a few clicks of the amount may be nice. Subtle widening is best in SW too IMO.
There's another YouTuber Phable who has several demos that give an electeonica-focused look besides Colt's and the Real Hone Recording guy.

I’m really interested in comparing it to plugs…might be a difficult thing to identify/quantify, though. I know this - if it’s not noticeably an improvement, I’d much, much rather not have to print anything.

Well…that didn’t take long. Played around all day with it, and I’m pretty sure it’s going back. It was no better - and maybe worse than all the software ones I have. Was hoping it would blow me away. This was a demo - and supposed to be working correctly…but I thought it had some weird upper mids/top end. Like brighter than the sides on my software wideners. Add into that having to deal with Pro Tools’ HW Delay Comp - it’s got to be something that I can’t get ITB. Disappointing because I was hoping it was going to blow me away.

Bummer! I was really interested in this for the same reasons and the price seemed great. Too good to be true I suppose.

Indeed it's very bright very quickly. From the demos I heard, I'd use it very cnservatively, amount at 4, stage set to back most of the times (or it's too bright), bass ON (pretty much the settings a reviewer favors too). And if you use it for creative purposes (on a delay or reverb return for example) then maybe try other funny settings. Behringer Edison SR-1 spacializer Mc Audiolab Luna (oh and they just released a rack500 version according to the website) Roland chorus 320 dimension D why not ? It's quite subtle really. Behringer made a clone. There is a Boss purple pedal too. D.A.V. S.I.P.P SPL yellow 1U rack (forgot the name sorry, and there is a plugin of it, it has been discussed on RGO already IIRC) Bedini Base (never heard it) Mathew Lane Spacecraft On the Moon (rolls royce). Lots of other things if you dig deeper too.

Is the SPL unit the Vitalizer?

Cheers for the honest feedback. The demos on YouTube all had that upper mid / top emphasis thing too except at the most subtle settings. I wonder if there's something like their Transient Designer circuit going on in the side channel... Have you tried the latest Ozone Imager or Leapwing Stage One v2? Those are my gotos besides the Nugen Stereoizer for more obvious special effects.

One other one I didn't see in your list is the Nady MSE-100A with it's "surround" feature. Just thought I'd mention it for completeness sake.

Lots of other things if you dig deeper too. Thank you very much for the heads up on MC Audiolab Luna (19" RACK). I just received one and it is *exactly* what I was hoping for. Delightful feature set, powerful routing, ability to rebalance existing tracks and craft new tracks. Just utterly perfect for my aims. An incredibly useful tool. I was hankering for the ML Spacecraft for a few years now. Still haven't pulled the trigger or tried it. But now having the MC Audiolab Luna I am questioning whether I still want Spacecraft. The granularity of control in the MC Audiolab Luna is insane. Enough to make one giddy with portent and possibility. Thanks lowlou for making me aware of this device which within hours has won my heart.
