I was surprised when researching not to find much on RGO about this. The SH Mono Gama is supposed to be one of the best 500 series mic amps right? This is actually the first SH product I'll have owned and after hearing some clips of an acoustic on "Nickel" setting I'm looking forward to it. In the past I thought SH were a but lah dee dah but over the years their prices here at least haven't gone up all that much in comparison to others and now it's balancing out.
What I did find really interesting is I'm listening on a laptop and I could clearly hear the difference between transformer settings, I reckon this is going to be fun. Anyone else have one? Thoughts, opinions?

Had a pair. They were nice. Ended up getting rid of them. Can't remember exactly why, but it wasn't a "game changer" or anything like that for me. They are good. I'm sure you will enjoy them.

These have been my favorite preamps for years now! I've owned mono gamas, Gama 8 and now the Quad Gama. Switching the output transformer so quickly is such a useful tone shaping tool. It's more obvious on some things than others, but always worth switching through to get what you want. The only downside to the mono is that it doesn't have the IRON setting that the Quad and Gama 8 has. Still a great preamp but if you really want a Neve flavor included, that would be the only thing missing from the mono.
I'm not sure what it is about the Gama but it rounds transients in the most pleasant way. Particularly on guitar cabs, it just is so much easier to dial in than a lot of other pres. Anyway...I could go on and on but I think you're going to be very happy!

Lol, whilst I was looking them up on the purple site back in 2007 you said. "It's close sounding to API which I've got a bunch of", there we go ..

If they would have added the IRON to the mono or made a rack version with it (needing more space), I would be in. But I'm surprised after all this time they never have. It always sounds great in the clips I find.

I did like the old style knobs and green lights though....

Ages ago there was a 2 channel preamp I'm pretty sure that got displayed at NAMM but never released. Really the only way to get into 2 channels with IRON is the Equinox but if you don't need a summing mixer it's way overkill for just that.

Kept it in place so far of the Burl B26 Gen1 I've used for years. And if you pull the top off of the Equinox and take a look at those summing bars it'll make you want to sum, lol. Haven't tracked through the Gamma's yet but I know you're a fan. Looking forward to putting them to use.

It really is an amazing box & I like the summing in it a lot as well. Yeah track some through the preamps when you get a chance and let me know what you think.

Tracked keys with those and they're outstanding.

i love the looks of the shadow hills gear. it LOOKS like great, sound! but the prices … thats why i never touched on. and reviews always seem to be mixed. not as heavy/irony as it looks blabla or to clean, ot to pricey for what you get.

Well, unfortunately after all of that my unit was DOA. As I'm pushing to get stuff done now(ish), I've asked for an RMA & something else..
