Anyone else use this board? My buddy's Blues Junior gets gigged a lot. Last weekend it lost significant power and would get that scratchy sound every time he hit a chord (these PCBs famously have cold solder joints and thin, cheap copper traces on the tube sockets that crack and then "arc" when they warm up). I've already re-flowed the tube board once and this time I just had him order the new Fromel tube board kit. I know there are a few other replacement PCBs out there (maybe cheaper) but this kit had all the parts as well as the Blues Junior IV bias changes built into it. And that should help the life of the power tubes (which tend to cook with the stock amps). I'm also doing the tone stack mod (orange drops) and the power supply filter caps (F&T) and "stiffening" mod (that were historically the "BillM" mods). Actually I did all that for him once about 10 years ago and then that amp got stolen. Hoping his amp will be able to get another 10 years (or longer). I'll probably be doing the bias resistor change to mine as well (I've already done the tone stack and filter cap/stiffening mods as well as replaced the speaker with a Cannibis Rex - but mine is only used in the studio - so it's treated nicer...).

I'm curious... for one it's pretty quiet now, but I'm not really the guitar player here - it is my buddy's amp. But I did the same tone stack mods to mine (along with the Cannibis Rex which I think also makes a big difference) and everyone that plays through mine likes it (and wonders why it sounds better than theirs lol). But most importantly it will prevent the intermittent problems he's had with it and also prevent the power tubes from cooking (which they tend to do with the stock bias of the older versions). If you really want to know thoughts on the sound difference, there are tons of forums out there (a lot of old stuff) discussing the BillM mods (he passed on several years ago though so his website is gone). The tone stack and power stiffening are probably the most popular, but if you have the other tube problems, then you know, and will want to fix those. Or if you are buying one, make sure it is the version IV
