Been checking out several plugin sub bundles lately. Been really trying to narrow it down to one that will be really useful. I’ve demo’d several - ssl, plugin alliance and a few others…ended up doing a year of PA…but I was still looking at a noise ash bundle and thought “I should look at the Slate stuff.” I had PT opened, so I just wanted to check the VMR plug and see what licenses I had…and this next part is the whole point of the post.
I apparently have the full slate bundle…for like 6 months now. Had no idea. Alcohol had to be involved.
Moral of the story: “I have lived without what I was looking to not be able to live without.”

Well shit. Maybe so!! I remember seeing something about the ssl bundle when I was looking into the Slate sub - but the ssl trial didn’t say anything about Slate. I’ll look at my Slate acct when I get on my computer.
Wait…if I had subscribed to the Slate ssl bundle way back, I should’ve already had access to these ssl plugs I just demo’d…but I didn’t.
I think I’m having a stroke.

All this conglomeration of companies is so confusing…

yeah the SSL plugs were added to the Slate sub a little while back. Great outcome for the existing Slate subscribers for sure. and Harrison got connected to SSL as well, I just can't keep track of all this nonsense. PA is Native Instruments now which is Izotope too right? ridiculous

Great, but I think you just end up with all kinds of plugs you never use. i have gone the other way not updating what I don’t use often/regularly. The business conglomerate buy out buy in machinations can go on without me: thank you very much !

I watched a Puremix video of a producer I really like.
He used 5 bits of expensive rare hardware and I made a note to buy plugin versions of each one.
Turns out I already own the plugin versions of each one!
I thought sh*t I need to make a printed out list of all the plugins I own so I can review it and remind myself of exactly what I do have at my disposal.

I've significantly whittled my plugin list down, and now I've also got favorites buttons set up on my Stream Deck so that I can essentially treat that as if it were a rack of hardware. I don't even look at my plugin list anymore. Anytime I need to add a plugin, I just look at the favorites buttons I have set up on the Stream Deck, and pick from that. Hit the button, and it's loaded. Done.
If a plugin isn't on the Stream Deck, guess it didn't make the cut. Oh well...
So that's my version of having a plugin "list" these days.

I definitely have far too many plugins and can't seem to convince myself to remove them from the plugin list because that one time I used it was "pretty cool".

The problem is "I love them all" Each one has it's own thing that I greatly value. I just need to remember just how extensive my tool kit is. I started a reverb and delay FX list today. The reverb list is embarrassing

Occasionally I find myself "decommissioning" a plugin - meaning I uninstall it, or if it's part of a bundle, then I just move that plugin (to the uninstalled plugins folder). Too many choices. But then when you pull up that old session and it's asking for that plugin. Uggh.
Steven Slate is the master of hype - but it's really not all snake oil. Most of them actually work well. I have VBC, FGX, FGX2, VTM, VMR (but mostly only the VCC basics now) and the free ones (fresh air and heatwave). I use VBC, FGX, and FGX2 all the time, VMR often, and VTM, Fresh Air, Heatwave once in awhile. I don't need (or want) the subscription so I probably won't get anymore Slate plugins though. I have a couple ML-2 mics but they are (nearly permanently) on hihat and ride duty and I always forget to use the VMR software - but they sound OK as just plain old SDCs. I had one of the ML-1's but sold it awhile back when I got some "real" mics that sounded good (and I felt I no longer needed the ML-1). And I've got VSX (platinum).
btw, if you did not know SlateDigital.com is part of AudioTonix (same owners of SSL, Harrison, etc) and StevenSlateAudio.com owns VSX, Raven, Trigger, SSD drums, etc. So that's why SS is not in our email hyping those plugin products anymore.

I have to make sure the plugins I really like are at the top of my plugin lists in Nuendo. Otherwise, I'd never get any work done. How many more reverb plugins do I need? I already have dozens and only use 4 of them. Same with compressors and EQs. Plugins are a total rabbit hole. You can get so lost in trying out new things that you never get anything done. Well, at least that's what happens to me.

I have Slate only because I have the SSL subscription. Not really using them. Luna does enough emulations for tape and saturation. But I DO like the SSL package.

Well, at least that's what happens to me. I'm my case it wouldn't make any difference. I never settle on an arrangement until I've have 10 to 15 different versions of a song on the go! An album is a mountain to climb .... labour of love I should add Plugins are the least of my troubles. Learning to play 5 different instruments and extensively studying every genre under the sun was my productivity undoing

Shit, I need to get that thing. The one thing that slows me down in mixing is when I have the dumb thought of “I wonder if this plug-in would sound better than the one I always use.“ Then I waste 45 minutes trying out different versions of an EQ to see which 10k boost sounds better. Sigh.

lol. Just looked on the Slate site. I have both the ssl and Slate bundles. I vaguely remember looking into it and signing up. No idea why the ssl stuff didn’t work when I downloaded the demos.

Sigh. Stream Deck is worth every penny. You can automate so much stuff, especially if you use Keyboard Maestro in the background. FYI, I've been working on some SD profiles for Luna for a while. It automates a lot of stuff, especially plugin control. So, if you're still using Luna, and are interested, I'll share those with you when I get done.

Yeah, I only got my Stream Deck XL (and sideshow FX Cubase pack) about a month ago but it's made my already fast Cubase workflow so fast my hands blur when I'm creating :-)
Highly recommended!

Yeah, I only got my Stream Deck XL (and sideshow FX Cubase pack) about a month ago but it's made my already fast Cubase workflow so fast my hands blur when I'm creating :-) Highly recommended! So do Sideshow packs already have all the programming done? Not completely understanding what it is... Sideshow has Stream Deck profiles for Cubase, Studio One, Ableton, and Logic. They also have similar type products for other creative software, like Photoshop, Word, etc. These type of packs are a turnkey deal, with button icons and the underlying Stream Deck plugins/software needed to run everything. The idea with these packs is that they provide the ability to automate a lot of common DAW functions and/or eliminate the need to use a mouse, by assigning those functions to a Stream Deck button instead. Stream Deck buttons also have the ability for real time feedback, so they can display status of things as well. It basically takes away the need to look at your screen as much, or to use your mouse/keyboard as much. Unfortunately, they only offer these profiles for those four DAWs that I mentioned. Maybe more will come out in the future, from Sideshow or somebody else. In any case, you can also create your own profiles on SD. Granted, they will be somewhat basic unless you also use something like Keyboard Maestro to essentially DIY create the same thing that Sideshow is doing. Keyboard Maestro is VERY powerful and you can do almost anything with it. I've become a bit of an evangelist for Stream Deck now that I've had one for a while. I wouldn't want to be without it. The DIY approach with Keyboard Maestro is what I am doing, because there is no Sideshow pack for Luna, and I'm not sure that any Sideshow pack, were it ever created for Luna, would do some of the custom things I'm doing with Keyboard Maestro.

Ohhh...are those only the icons and then you have to do all the "coding"?
