I am looking for recommendations of a good portable interface that plays extremely well with PT Studio/Ultimate. Not about how many tracks as I will probably only use it for two at a time for its intended purpose. I plan to run it from a USB-C mac so usb-c interface is needed. This is for demo work, recording while traveling, and probably mixing demo stuff with my collection of plugins. Mostly looking for opinions of what impressed you and what you'd suggest to avoid. I am not a fan of the scarlett stuff for no specific reason except price point, but I can't afford an RME babyface right now either. The UA arrow format is intriguing and I suspect its good enough but not sure what else to look at. Appreciate your thoughts.....especially the drive-by thinking of chessparov whether its related or not....

I would think BLA Revolution 2x2, MOTU M2, Neve 88M, or Heritage i73 Pro 2. I was just looking a that myself. All would do a good job. I like the idea of Neve flavored preamps though.

I enjoyed using the MOTU M4...really impressed with it for the money. I also have a Grace M900 which I use when traveling and only have headphones for mixing and editing that's wonderful but it's just a USB headphone amp

I still feel apollo twin or quad stands great in this sector. Super fun on the road with the dsp tracking possibilities. Arturia studio with 4 pres is quite fun too. But then again depending on budget any rack interface with expansion to 8 channel adat pre like the neve and what not into a 3unit portable rack and you are pretty much set.

If a Babyface is too pricy, I'm assuming the Grace, Neumann, Neve are all out of consideration (although all cool, and sort of giving me GAS despite not needing a mobile interface). Motu M4 gets my vote. Has additional line-inputs in case you ever want to be less mobile on this rig with external pre amps, but is still buss-powered. If you're interested in getting into another plugin eco-system, the Apollo could be cool and inspiring on its own, and it.. might.. have better RTL stats than the M4? I'm not sure on that front. If I were you, I'd be trying to figure out what would be fun/inspiring to use on the road (without being a pain to setup).
The only thing I'm not too sure about is if certain manufacturers deal with Pro Tools better or worse these days. I come from a time where most interfaces wouldn't work with Pro Tools, so you either ended up with digidesign or M-Audio boxes. By that standard everything works -way- better now, but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not privy to other characteristics or compatibility issues.

Sound devices usbpre2. My wife has one on her desktop with a u87 and a pair of headphones and she does a lot of finished vocals there. With an M1 Mac she can monitor pro tools no problem. It’s a super versatile problem solver box and its super plug and play on a pro tools Mac. We use prism HDX in studio with a mytek cue system and she doesn’t seem to care about any difference in experience.
