I have a number of Audio Technical M50X headphones that the pads have shed most of the fake leather. Anyone have success replacing the pads, or do you just toss them and get another pair? These are the primary headphones I use. I have five of them but two are pretty bad.

I've replaced the pads on my Sony's, but my AKG's I toss and buy new ones.

I've replaced them on HD280s and 7506s. Kind of a pain to stretch them over...

I use M50X’s as tracking headphones in my studio for guests and students. I cover them over and keep on tracking…. tinyurl.com/Tracking-phones

I've already replaced the pads on my 50X.. It's the fraying of the top headband that's the problem for me.

Those headband covers work well. But, definitely buy the real Audio Technica pads and not the cheap knock offs...those don't fit great and are pretty "stiff"...had a few complaints about them especially since pretty much every studio in Nashville has M50's and musicians know what they are normally like.

I send them in for refurbishing. I think I've had my HD600s done twice now in 18 years of owning and they're due for another round.

I just bought new pads for my BeyerDynamic DT770s (they are 20+ years old now?) All other headphones I have tossed, but none of them were that great anyway.

Thanks for the ideas. I bought a set of replacement ear pads from AT on Amazon. I will see how they work out and then try other ideas if that doesn't go well.
