I've been waiting to post this for a long time, as this was going to be inevitable.
I knew something like this would happen eventually with the mass corporate built stuff. As over the years the audio designer is not the same type of people. These corporate people originally hired Electronics Technology people who specialized in audio electronics. They applied standards in equipment and find the best methods to build it. These were the guys who worked on equipment for decades before even going into the manufacturing sector. The degree that they had (Electronics Technology is an Associate in Applied Science) the corporate world (which came from a different industry) decided that an associate degree was not a real degree and started not considering anyone who doesn't have a bachelor's degree and laying off people they hired. Well there isn't a Bachelor's or Master's degree with Applied Sciences degrees. Because most of applied science is about applying the technology available while maintaining standards. And a lot of these people like me got booted out of the corporate world even though at one time they leaned on us for design guidance and referred to us as electronics design specialists. So, a lot of us either got out of the field, went back to repair, or like me being hired by boutique and high end manufacturers for consultation on a contract basis. But the corporate mass producers don't. But I'm glad they are screwing up their product. It leaves room for others like me to make better things on our own for people. So this is the beginning of the Blacklisted items they are selling retail that are not pro audio devices because they break compatibility or somewhat compatible if adapted.
Will be adding to this list as I find people having compatibility issues online. But feel free to add items you found incompatibility issues.

Focusrite is a well known manufacturer of pro audio gear in the past. Over the years, there is a division of products that developed that are not pro audio. Even their site segregates their non pro audio devices. Vocaster podcast interfaces is put on the list due to unknown input impedance specifications.

Mackie Big knob
Can only handle certain impedance on its outputs. Unit heats up under the pressure of its own task.

Maybe not my place to say this as a sporadic poster, but this seems a bit excessive and ill-defined. The question of what compatibility issues can be feels like a slippery slope.
I don't think you have bad intentions but the premise of making a blacklist that has a lot of solid entry-level interfaces (and higher) seems like bait for conflict.

I think there has to be more specifics to blacklist anything. Such as saying that "all FireWire interfaces are bad", which is not true if on an old Mac, but true if you are on PC with the wrong chipset. It gets pretty tricky when you write off whole product lines.

Who are they blacklisted by? And compatibility with what? I’m unclear on the concept.

"Lucy" "Splain yourself!". IMHO let's mainly focus right on what's to be celebrated... Silver Bullet/Locomotive/Coil et al. I think those kind of Interfaces are "OK", that the OP mentioned. I_even_have a Volt 1(nice/clean Pre) and 3rd Gen Solo (sounds OK) Generally budget stuff isn't at a price point/market target, to enhance the Signal. Like the Premium/upscale devices above. Chris

I have a couple buddies that have purchased Volts in the last 12 months and their experience has been great. I don't think they're trying to do mods or anything, they're just musicians recording demos and in one case releasing a DIY side project that's been super well received.
If you ask me the Volt is a great product for its target market. Way better than what I was working 20 years ago when I was that target market.
Incidentally, that product was the M-Audio MobilePre which I paid $175 in 2004 when I needed a portable rig that could work with my laptop and had no money. I saved up for that. That's nearly $300 in today's money (wow) which gets you stuff that is roughly infinity times better give or take a few infinity.
As an industry, why blacklist great products just because they are entry level?

I'm beginning to think he has bad intentions It's hard to tell for me anymore these days. I'm certainly not speaking for this individual or others, but I personally feel like as I've gotten older and colleagues have moved on or passed away, the less I have the opportunity to talk shop with folks, the more I feel like my "online" or written personality has turned into a ranting madman. I'm definitely not crazy in person, but when I get the chance to talk/write about things I'm passionate about, I tend to lose that filter, and I sort of suspect that happens more often these days in general with the state any audio (and video?) production are at. Not trying to sound like a fatalist about the music or entertainment industry.

Maybe there are no ill intentions.
Maybe OP is listing interfaces that are incompatible with his system.
Why is that being posted on a public forum instead of an Obsidian note to himself I can't say.

I'm locking this. It's a completely arbitrary subject. You're welcome to complain about whichever piece you don't like, but we will not be amassing lists in virtual struggle sessions.
