I've always used Ozone...but just demo'd the SSL one and I really do think it's better. Anyone have any secret widener plugins?

The Fusion one was the best I tried. Though I don't really use it a lot. Instead I just work off of the basic low frequency mono preset on Basslane Pro across my busses. I'll use the Fusion hardware across the whole mix. Basslane Pro has some widening functions. The article below was very persuasive as to why the methods used in BLP are going to provide better results than others: flotownmastering.com/blog/center-that-subThen I'll use BLP again across the whole mix after going through hardware.

I've become interested widener plugins very recently since stumbling upon Izotope's which I had never used before. I'm not sure if it's a "widener plug" strictly speaking, but the Aspect Ratio button on the new Silver Bullet plugin does something pretty cool to the stereo space.

Yeah...$199 is ridiculous. And it's really one of the only ones I want from demoing all of that.

The Fusion widener is $199? There have been times that SSL put all the Fusion plugins on sale for around $25 or $29.

Gonna wait for that I think.

I'm pretty sure if you take the poll on the LTL website, you can get the SB plugin with ASPECT RATIO for $150 off. Stereo Imaging + a lot more. Really, the AR feature is just the icing on the cake. Actually, it looks like you don't even have to take the survey.

Goodhertz MidSide is the best I've used in terms of tweaking it and features. Use it for mastering a lot.
LTLO Aspect ratio is pretty great though and I use it too, just no controls just on or off.

I know it will sound strange but I will often use the Weis Maximizer in the wide setting with no limiting happening. There are a lot of good widening plugins right now. I always check the results on a correlation meter. There are a few I've used that really messed with phase in a bad way. The mono image falls apart. So I just use a touch. No more than 25%.

If I want to widen by emphasizing the existing side signal, I usually find a mid/side eq produces the most natural sounding result. My go to is the PA Soma, but there are loads of good options obv.
If I want to widen by adding new signal to the sides, my go to is the Nugen Stereoizer. It has lots of controls and a bit of a learning curve, but you can get natural sounding results once you get the hang of it, and it can also be used as a more dramatic effect for sound design.

I use the LTL plugin for critical stuff, mainly master buss.
But, I also get a lot of use out of Polyverse Wider, and it’s free.

The SPL PQ plugin does some natural widening too I've noticed. Try pushing the input some though.

It’s funny to be talking about a plug-in for Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Feels like 2010 UAD.

It’s funny to be talking about a plug-in for Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Feels like 2010 UAD. It took a huge amount of $$$ to develop. I think mostly due to not only high international costs, but also Brad's penchant to not settle for anything less than 100%. IMO, it's beyond the normal "me too" level of plugs. You can believe LTL is gouging, or that they are stuck in 2010, or what I believe - that it's more of a gift to the audio community than a huge profit margin piece. Your choice. Every company deserves to make a reasonable profit - or they quit development.

Every company deserves to make a reasonable profit - or they quit development. Yes indeed. I don’t think anyone is ‘gouging’ with a sky-high, outlier price for a plug-in. Just a matter of whether it makes sense for that dev to try and get a small group to pay that price vs a large group paying a normal price.

I know this is an unpopular sentiment but I think the PA subscription is worth it. I'm not sure if I've come out ahead or not, it's worth it to have a buffet of tools that are consistent quality. It's the only subscription I have and I've never looked at that $15 or whatever it even is and felt like I'm not getting $200/yr value. Not trying to light a powder keg here, I know some really hate subscriptions. Maybe one day I'll buy myself out and just purchase the ones I use most, but everytime I think I'm gonna do that in comes another SB type plug to boost the value of the PA sub.

I think subscriptions are great for some folks. Probably less so for folks who already have perpetual licenses for dozens of plugins, and / or who are relying heavily on hardware. Personally, I don't like subscriptions, but if I was just starting out, I'd definitely end up on one or two of them. <<thumbsup>>

Another vote for Nugen Stereoizer if you want something other 'basic' imagers won't offer.
I also lean on Wavesfactory Spectre in mid/side for extra spicy stuff.
I find the plugin alliance built-in widener useful also. Same goes for narrowing.

I know the SB is included in the sub, but are there any restrictions to picking it? Also, I'd get a like 180 plugs for a year and own 3. SB, Bettermaker comp and some of the SPL stuff/Shadow Hills...I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it unless I'm not understanding the deal.
