well, not at all design wise really, but my Soundcraft delta 200 console is getting really close to being done! It is a 32x8x2, fully hotrodded with Jim Williams mods, i turned it from a 4 buss to an 8 buss by adding some switches to the PCB's which already had the 4 additional pathways burned onto them, i just needed to add the appropriate jumpers on the 4 additional aux channels, and drill holes in the 32 channel strip chassis's for 5-6 7-8 push button aux assignments. So after all this work, i was showing a buddy all the stuff that i did to this thing, and of course he had to say.. "to bad it looks like a Mackie".... Fuck me! lol, my ego was crushed!....because.. well, he was right! lol At best I think it looks like someone spilled skittles on top of it, so i decided to do something about that, and i was wondering what you fella's think of my current makeover plan? I'm thinking old school chicken/neve color style, the cool thing is the gray color of the metal is very Nevey already. I'm totally open to any suggestions on the look, i'll probably be staring at this till the day i die. Here's a couple pics for comparison stock vs mod, you can also see to some extent, the electronics mods, JW's design virtually eliminates electrolytic caps from the circuit(from 16 to 5 total..i think?), and turns a decent sounding board into an absolute beast, it sounds huge, with a mile wide stereo image, it has a 92db crosstalk spec between R/L channels @10k!!

wiz i was going to go the api route until i saw the prices on the knobs, even at CAPI's good prices, they're steep at 128 pieces to cover just the sends, it would look sick though....

I would say it's an improvement in aesthetics but being the proud user of a fully modified ghost from creation labs I'd say play it loud an play it proud!

Do the knobs take inserts? Will Jeff ' s small colored ones fit on those. Can't tell from the pic if they are dished or dome.

Wow! 5 nays, and 1 yaay... I'm surprised? I would have expected all "iddy it's" 8), or the opposite for some reason.. mulmany, they are plastic inserts, the CAPI sticker would work, but I would need 400+ of them @ ^$, The current chicken head set up would be about 150 or so at 70 cents each. henge he was mostly joking, I'm pretty much turning the whole thing into a bigger jokey thing really, but honestly, I really don't like the skittles spill look personally, and always loved the OS look of neves and API's, I'm a huge fan of old school chicken head knobs also, they're all over my 1176's, their indicators are so clear. I also put so much work into this board, I figured I wanted it to look a bit different for interest sake, so when potential clients/audio folks gander it for the first time, they would do the inquisitive dog head turn, maybe bring up convo instead of just assuming... "it's a SC", which in its stock form, isn't the most sexy board in the world... Unless of course, u LOVE skittles 8)

None of my clients have ever said anything bad about the look of my little SC delta. I say leave it as is and work on something else that is more important.

just to be clear fella's, this is totally unserious.. my though was a poll thread would be fun, i'm just coming to the end of a lot of work here on this, and in a way, it's kinda like putting the icing on the cake for me, to a very large degree, i could care less about the looks of gear.

I NEVEr liked the chickenheads anyway. I always thought they looked cheesy.

My main board is still disassembled, but since i am quite happy with the sound, i thought about mostly cosmetic makeovers as well. After i put the knobs into the laundry they look ok - and why should i invest much more money in new knobs than i paid for the whole desk...? Your's doesn't look like a mackie anyway. More a bit like my Soundtracs, in fact. (Hm - Btw., without wanting to hijack the thread...does anyone know how to restaurate or replace totally worn out silk-screen print for the fader markings without costing me a fortune? )

Keep me stock, a Mackie dreams of looking like a Delta 8! Now if I ever get JW to do his magic on my Status I will reknob it simply because Its freakin impossible to tell what your grabbing in low light! And for a board that was $13,750 new ( I paid $750 and have the original invoice) the knobs look and feel like an Audio Centurion! Mackie knobs would be an upgrade!
I did think CAPI Vintage API would be cool considering Otari consoles were originally Soundworkshop founded by former API Guys, but for the cost of the knobs I could buy....
