The test was a little messy somehow, had a hard time making something out of it, but it opened my eyes to the bettermaker as i didn’t know about the plug. Sounds interesting considering the quality of their hardware. Anyone had the Bettermaker EQ232P MKII against a pultec?

I really like the Bettermaker EQ plugin…I use it whenever I get something really dull and it needs a big, wide boost…but it doesn’t seem to get harsh or phasey like a lot of things.

I can’t wait for the new Stam Pultec. Yes! I'm chomping at the bit for that. Got one of the stereo "+" versions on order. I have the Bettermaker plugin as well as waaay too many Pultec plugins (AA Purple is my favorite). I don't use plugins as much as I once did but like most folks probably already know the Bettermaker provides relatively clean broad sweeping Pultec-like curves with minimal color and more flexibility while the assorted Pultec emulations provide the basic true-to-form Pultec curves with bathing degrees of saturation. Some of them sound harsh in my opinion (don't really want to disparage them by naming names) and some (like Purple) sound deliciously "vintage warm". So Pultec emulations for me provide a one stop shape and saturate solution while the Bettermaker let's me shape time and then saturate separately with whatever flavor I choose.

I’ve been all over my rubber bands stereo pultec style now for some time. I am sold, can’t stop loving the thing. I turn it on and BAM, i’m there, sounds like record. Lost all my GAS after it moved in…. But don’t be scared.. GAS will return. Attachment Deleted

Yeah that is the thing i’m a little hesitant on regarding the bettermaker. I mean they make great products and the plugin seem killer, but half of the fun in a pultec is the amp right? The slight compression you achieve there and all that it comes with. When you reach for a pultec you each for all that. So I don’t see why the bettermaker is compared to a pultec per se. It’s seems like a great product on it’s own, not a substitute for a pultec, and should maybe be compared with other passives that are closer to it’s sound scape.
