That's an odd (but not bad) list, especially with the 224 being represented twice via the Arturia and NI rather than giving that spot to one of the Relab 440 plugs.

I also find it odd that the capitol was there but not hitsville, if you have to pick a uad chamber.

I haven’t found a single use for Hitsville tbh.

I don’t know if it so much that I prefer it, I use arturia’s 140 way more, but it has it’s place just as capitol does. But looking into the pure quality of the reverb I think hitsville is in a class of it’s own. I use it on vocals, tambourines and sometimes strings. I could sure do using only hitsville on a mix if I had to.

I prefer the Captiol to the Hitsville, it has this something that I really like, a very distinctive sound. The softube chamber is nice too.
As for springs, I would have mentioned Tens from Klanghelm, just excellent in my opinion but perhaps not covering as many colors as Waves? I've never tried the Waves.
Otherwise the Wave Alchemy reverbs are excellent too.

The Hitsville is pretty specific. It's the kind of thing that you put on the main melody or "calling card" sound of the song to make it distinct against the other instruments. Capitol Chambers are more broadly useful to me. Yeah, I like it for lead vocals. The Marvin and Tammy preset is a pretty good starting point for tweaking.

For me, the large wood room makes the Relab480 worth the price of admission. Just tried and enjoy the UAD for plate. Love 7th Heaven for halls.

I like the Hitsville reverb (chamber), but as said, it's got a place like the Capitol chamber. It's not always right for every kind of song. I've been using Soundtoys Superplate a lot recently for vocals and general ambience stuff. I do like the auto-decay feature (basically ducking) and it's got some basic EQ, which I'm usually going to do anyway (so saves me from adding another plugin). I use the Lexicon MPX on drums a lot, but wish it had some EQ built in. I also did a whole album (rock/fusion thing) where I used the United Plugins Morphverb on drums. It's got a lot of cool features like compression, ducking, and setting reverb models between 2 types (the morphing part).

I still like Realverb and Trueverb, 11 years later. They sound natural and like the classics . . . I don't use a lot of reverb anyhow, just a splash for some extra space for when things are close-mic'ed.
You really don't need to make your work sound dated.

OldSkoolVerb by Voxengo and OrilRiver by Denis Tihanov are my favorite free ones.

Isn't it inevitable? All the little decisions we make are colored by the aesthetics of the times we live in, no?. That is, unless we're recording documentary style.

It's possible for work to sound fresh and a bit retro in its moment. I think all we can do is try and sound great now. What tomorrow thinks is a black box.

I've never heard of United Plugins, and I'm checking out the morphverb right now.

I do see your point, but think it is avoidable. You can work towards one of two main ends: A. Timeless classic capture of sound such as classic pop, and the 60s thru early 80s blend . . . which will always be beloved by some and quaint to others. B. Periodic trendiness and trying to create something new, which inevitably sound old within a year if not sooner, but sure seems cool at the time! There are other scenarios but it can come down to substance or style.

Lemme know if you find something cool for the 224. I almost never keep it on when I'm trying things for mixes. first thing I do is turn off the "sys noise". I never like modeled noise. if I want noise, I'll use real hardware lol. Sometimes I've had to open the panel and increase the input and sometimes the output gain to get decent levels when I use it on an aux send. it just seems to be lower level than some other verbs I use.

I totally forgot that I bought Little Plate when it was on sale. Thanks for the reminder, RGO.
