www.voosteq.com/model-n-channel/Have you tried this plugin? If so, what do you think (especially those who have Neve or other real consoles)? I find the sound really interesting and even though it sounds like he's eating transients for breakfast, what comes out sounds more alive. I particularly like the "Console 2" sound on all tracks and buses.

Looks cool as hell…is there some sort of user guide? It doesn’t say what the different “25” and “84” buttons do…I thought maybe 1084…but it doesn’t say.

unfortunately the manual does not explicitly talk about emulated machines. It's true that some things are a little obscure, notably the "MOD" button. It's MOD for modern but what preamp/EQ is emulated? 84 is for the 1084, 31 for the 31102 but MOD remains a mystery. As for the compressor, 25 appears to be a 254 and 32 a 32264.

The advantage of the Softube is that it offers more settings for compression but the VoosteQ has this "analog flavor" thing which for me is the whole point of this plugin. I'm really curious to get feedback from people who have real consoles... Or at least from people who are used to working on Neve.

I've been using it since it came out - was very skeptical based on the low price and not being familiar with their company. It's made it on every mix project since then FWIW.
Pretty nice, having oversampling on is a must below 96kHz for me and I prefer the aging pretty close to New. Marinair transformers as my default for nice clarity, switching to Carhnill or others if something needs thickening.

i scoped this plugin a bit ago on someone else's request. very interesting. it's definitely not a front-end for extremely simple DSP like most channel emulators. it's got some unique stuff going on, but as for its accuracy i cannot say as i don't have a reference hardware unit here. it is well-designed. the EQ performs well and doesn't contract at nyquist. the distortion looks about right for the type of circuit it's emulating. i can at least say that it's not an outright scam like most of the other plugins that market themselves like this, especially at $20.

Great, thank you for this feedback. This confirms my feelings. I've never had a console and I certainly don't have the ears of most people here but I think this plugin brings something new. Certainly the sound is very distinctive, we are far from transparency but it does it with class. I prefer it to all the other channel strips I have. I also quickly tested their Material Comp, it seems very interesting too! I have the impression that we are dealing with a top level developer.

just demoing it right now. can sound just like softube bca but voosteq is waaay more flexible and all the different models ain‘t subtle. the flavors are all very different and the old 70‘s neve model (thinks its the 84) is dark. can eat transient very quickly though the comp model on the right sounds more modern, especially in combination with the slam button. in the manual it says the age knob does not only change the gui but also the sound, interesting.
cpu is lighter than softube bca. i think its a real bargain for the price and it sounds rather good.

did some doctoring with the free bertom frequency analyzer and when i choose the 84 model with carnhill and/or console 2 flavor, it has very similar curves to my AML ez1073 neve clone. and it sounds good. choosing model 84 and marinair transformer gives a dark sound, it gives a treblier sound when choosing console 2 and model mod. the comp also can sound either dark or modern. i will buy it. like i said, it can sound exactly like my softube bca and very similar to my AML ez1073, but it is way more versatile.

Glad people are liking it. I picked it up during my software binge for Black Friday. So I havent played with it much yet.
Cheers, Geoff

I passed on it...just took too much tweaking to get anything that sounded good IMO...

i didn‘t buy it. i am testing acustica gold 5 right now. man, thats some workflow to work out first. i want to emulate a neve 8068 console as close as possible for mixing. some suggest to put eq first and than the preamp/line. not shure about that …

I have never tested the Acustica one. They do good things (I really like Titanium, Midnight and Grey) but they require a lot of CPU resources so I imagine that putting a Gold on all the tracks must be complicated even with a good machine (i7 13700K for me ). I find the VoosteQ reasonable on this point. What I find unfortunate is that a band is missing on the EQ and that there is no attack time on the compressor. But I mainly use it for the preamp and the "Analog flavor" function. I find that it works well on aggressive sources like cymbals or things with too many transients.

acustica gold preamp and a bit of eq on 30 tracks/busses uses 25% cpu on my m1 at 44khz. so usable. i did pass on the voosteq because the line input knob saturates to much, gets muddy soon and the analog flavors lose highs quick, except console2, „none“ and fake. it sounded a bit too „neve forced“ to me compared to gold 5. although the compressor in slam mode sounds very nice on drums. eq‘s sound good but yeah, the missing second midband is there on gold 5. so another plus for it.
