Regarding this interface: I think if you ARE going setup an ATMOS rig it looks really useful and fits the bill. But if you do much more than mixing, it's sort of expensive for lacking features that other interfaces have for a flexible studio.
I know we're chasing too many bells and whistles. Generally, I think Audient is doing competent work and this is certainly a thoughtful product to add to what they already have.

My Apollos aren’t going anywhere, I would keep my regular “stereo” setup for tracking. The Atmos setup would be separate, I’m not really sure yet about incorporating the two worlds for tracking, or if there would really be much of a point yet. I’m still on ADAT for 8 channels, so could figure out an ADAT switcher to route between my interfaces in the case that I want to start trying to track things while monitoring in Atmos in the control room (which would be the ultimate goal I guess). For now, it makes more sense to have things separate, so all this needs to do is handle output for the Atmos speakers, monitor control and speaker management/correction stuff.

It's not about fun or creativity. It's about both business and the end user. People literally do not care one iota about any sort of surround music only situations. Quad in the '70s, 5.1 SACD in the '90s, Atmos in the '20s. Music consumers don't care. Sure there's the occasional 'audifile' who will buy the worst music in the world because "it sounds so clear," but typical music lovers and music makers have been and will continue to listen in stereo. My life was impacted enormously when I was 7/8 years old.. listening to Dark Side Of The Moon, in my brothers car on 8 track with quadraphonic sound...its a shame more people don't have that experience... cheers Wiz I'm sure that's true, especially with that record. But, look where you ended up. The geeky minority of audio/music professional. I'm sure any one of us on this board would be totally into a great immersive listening experience, but we also UNDERSTAND so much more of what goes into making a record than even our partners who have learned things by being around us, let alone the 'general public.'

Dark Side of the Moon was the first major label pop record that was tracked while monitoring in surround.
