Hey, I opened up my stam 67 mkii to gently push some headbasket wire mesh back into plane: don’t ask, nothing major ! The Mike is a couple of year’s old, light use. I was surprised by the discolouration on the brass parts of capsule. Just normal aging as the brass is exposed to air? thx !

If it's raw brass then yeah that's normal. well normal for Brass to do that. Idk if its normal for his capsule to do that.

That’s what I’m thinking too, but wonder what Tim thinks too: thx!
How’s the build ?

do you store your mics with a desiccant (silica gel) pack? you also have to replace them periodically (or bake them), especially if they are not in a sealed container. Mics pick up a lot of humidity as people exhale, cough, spit on them all day. you can get the desiccant packs on Amazon pretty cheap.

That is a type of galvanic corrosion from the brass oxidizing from the moisture in the air, that the copper is oxidized off, leaving more zinc dioxides behind. you could probably have someone polish that off, but I would also go further and do a light coat of clear model paint on that surface and it wouldn't corrode anymore.

No, I keep them out and set up. i really just record me so not a lot of use: that’s why the discolouration surprised me, mikes like 2 year’s old.

. I have built an mk-u47 and c12, so have a light touch. So, the trick would be completely protecting the capsule, and being very careful: right ?

Sometimes its this with losing copper, and grey pits form. The pink is a different type of galvanic corrosion due to losing zinc in its metal
