The Beyerdynamic website seems to indicate that it’s mostly a cosmetic change for their mics, except a grille change to the M88. Some glued on parts are replaced with screw connections. There’s an FAQ at the end of the M160 product page. north-america.beyerdynamic.com/m-160.html

the answer is always $$ (cost reduction most likely - but I did read the FAQ too)

Thank you so much! Well, the original is less expensive at proaudiostar and no one has made a good case for paying more for V2!

I haven't seen one yet, but it largely looks like a body cosmetics change to be inline with the rest of their mics. Maybe they got a new company president who had to put his signature on something (hence the body graphics change)?
The M160 has been consistently made for many years, other than the switch to neodymium magnets (with I want to say was sometime in the mid to late 2000's, maybe 2010's?). They used alnico magnets prior to that. The ones made earlier in the 1960's had a different chamber design.
Once I get one in for repair, I'll follow up with something of more substance =)
Regards
Jon

I talked to them last year at NAMM. Mic is basically the same, but they slightly adjusted how they are made so that getting the ribbon installed is easier. Was told no change to the sounds at all, still made in Germany, etc.

I'm certainly interested to see that.
