I'm tired of half-assed iTunes. First, I want to have my unmastered finals, then my mastered album finals in all their iterations. I need to store and catalogue all my Logic works in progress. I need separate categories for things like iPhone demos.
Last, I want to catalogue all my CD's so I can get rid of them. I'd like to easily set up categories, Classical, Jazz, Rock, Country, etc. and then be able to assemble playlists for listening.
I need some suggestions and advice, thanks.

Do you want to just store or store and play?
Storing, you just need sufficient space and can set what ever fike system you want? If you bought sone iCloud space, you could duplicate the master folder and drag to your iCloud Drive and save there: so two versions.

These are a few things rolled into one. Do you need a searchable backup? I think so. But these aren't with instant play, they just let you label/categorize and find stuff in your backup. I strongly advise against an online backup method as the only solution as there alfready have been a few instances where these companies went bust and took all the peoples data with them. It only makes sense in a mixed backup scheme. How about: A big RAID system with lots of (slow, but more capacity) harddrives in your workspace or office or basement, so your data stays local and (!!!!) under your control. Then an offline system (for example, military-spec'd bluerays like Mdisc) in another location Then if you like online storage, for which a fast uplink is handy. You don't control it, you don't own it.

yes, whatever you choose, make sure you have a copy in multiple places (to avert disaster)

Rip your CDs with eac or xld. I would keep the physical CDs too. Jriver is a good app for desktops. Foobar is good on iPhone and android. Foobar is also on desktop but it has some issues. A friend of mine measured it with an analyzer…

I want to safely store masters Logic projects AND have quick access to listen to music. I plan to buy an external disk drive, maybe 3 or 4 gigs. What I'd like it a way ti organize the files easily. Final Sizes, Masters, demos, lots of songs from my CD collection.
I have some iCloud storage. I could probably try uploading some things as a 3rd backup.

Final Sizes, Masters, demos, lots of songs from my CD collection. I have some iCloud storage. I could probably try uploading some things as a 3rd backup. A couple thoughts here, but not specifically on the software to organize it. 1) Get a large external hard drive (8tb or more,) but perhaps one that someone like Sweetwater or an industry "expert" would recommend. Drives are cheap at Best Buy, but unless you know what you are looking for, in a year the drive could fail and it will be gone (learned this the hard way with my wifes computer. Losing my own stuff is easier to deal with than my wife losing hers.) Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Plan on $200+ at a minimum. 2) All hard drives eventually fail...not if, but when. 3) On some schedule, burn important stuff to DVD and store it at a safety deposit box at a bank - organized by project, month/year, whatever works. Your DVDs might get wet there, but they will never melt. Keep them in Zip lock bags and they shouldn't get wet, even if the bank floods. 4) Cloud is not a bad place for easy access to stuff, but probably not guaranteed against loss. Unlikely, yes, but could happen with zero recovery.
