I’m hoping someone can help me out with my Sony C38B. Love this mic for my voice. Brought it out today and there’s a very loud hum and the voice sounds pretty dark and just not great. It didn't fall and has been stored safely, so not sure what happened.
Anyone have a suggestion for who could assist with repair? I am located in the US.
Thanks!

Preston at PTW Audio has repaired a bunch of these. They often need recapped, when they sound dull and have even lower output than normal is the usual sign. He’s in Nashville www.ptwaudio.com/

I’m going to ask what maybe a stupid question but did you try it with a couple of different pre’s and cables? I only ask because having spent a good portion of my life next to a large service dept. the vast majority of mic hum issues where cable or grounding related.
I would try contacting Dave wheeler, but I’m not sure if he is currently excepting outside repairs.

Well it has the built in cable so nothing I can try otherwise there, but yes, ran through several different preamps with the same results. Great I'll look him up thanks!

If you’re not messing with the capsule (don’t!) it might be worth checking if you can safely open up the mic and check for any loose connections. A bad ground connection could be the culprit if you’re lucky, often solved by a quick solder job. To be fair though, I have zero experience with this mic, it’s quite possible something else is going on (bad capacitors often the next item on my debug search list)
