So I was out running around doing errands , the kid and I walked right out of Walmart around the corner and into GuitarCenter. I felt like I was in the same place and I kid you not the Kid who was ignoreing customers was switching out his blue shirt and Into a black one and was ignoreing his customers even more as he got paid to work on his beats at GC!
I was laughing so hard I almost peed my pants !
I then discovered the restrooms were just as bad !

I get the opposite at my two guitar centers. The moment you walk in, it's like mosquitoes at a barbeque, they swarm you. You can't go more than 10 feet as you walk through the sections without someone "hey bro, sumtin' I can help you wit?". Forget it if you look at anything expensive too, that just means 2 or 3 will stand about 15ft from you waiting for you to look interested in a particular instrument, then one of them will swoop in for the "dude, that's a great ______. I play one of those myself, blah blah yadda yadda."
I made the mistake of asking one overzealous dude about guitar tuners they had in stock. He told me that some old Korg thing they had on the shelf was the best they had.. It was sitting next to a Peterson strobe tuner..

Yeah That was what the Houston Store was Like, and everything was " great" or "awesome"! Here they nod at you as you walk in then you need to beg them for any help !
The only times I ever asked for anything other than "take my money" were 1 the Magma Chassis I had Transfered from another store and was told inc a host card didn't ! The Manager basically gave me the thing! 2 I wanted to plugin the defective TC M2000 that I ended up paying $40 for was defective "Dude it might cost like $1000 to fix" Me "really I just called TCs repair Depot, It's a fixed fee of $249 inc return shipping!" "Oh maybe we should have checked"!
There was the discussion of why I wanted a $15 AKG D1000, guy thought it was a C1000 like the one next to it! Or the time he thought I was nuts for buying a pair of Earthworks " they suck on up close vocals you know!"

I was wondering when we'd start our own 'Guitar Center' thread!

I must be lucky since the Phoenix GC is OK for my local store needs. I have worked with Brandon Meunier many times and he is mellow and knowledgeable. Sure much of the other people are over-enthusiastic but I very much prefer that to the surly, hungover, antisocial, egotistical, better-than-you types that seem to populate guitar counters around the world. The worst part of it is that most of the staff just makes me feel damn old.

Every time I walked into the GC by Metro center somebody confused me for some cop who was burned, like I didn't know who I was! Was never sure if it was a good or bad thing!

I hate GC, I went there to try out a MarkBass amp, there was this little kid making all this noise with a bass/amp combo so I couldn't listen to what I wanted to as far as the MarkBass characteristics. I made a notion to the salesman to quiet him down and he smiled and did nothing. I then said "how am I supposed to know what this amp sounds like" he responds, "turn it up" as it ends up the kid was the son of the store manager and the worker didn't have the balls to ask him to stop for a couple minutes. I handed him the bass and told him this store was a joke. That was my one and only visit.

I can't rely on my impressions of something when in a store, whether it is quiet or not. I need to try the thing, whatever it is, through my own equipment, in my own hideaway.

The thing i cant stand about GC, is the constant barrage of emails for mentoring from guys who suck my balls good luck lol

Its a retail store and unfortunately, retail doesn't pay its employees very much.
I've encountered some real idiots, but I have also met some sales people who have been helpful and accommodating.
One thing I dont understand is why they put expensive guitars out that are not even close to being set up properly, especially a simple thing like intonation.
There have been several times when I was shopping for a new guitar and most of the ones I played were not set up at all. Had the money in my pocket, ready to go, and walked out the door.....

I'm Canadian, we don't really have that problem although Long and Mcquade is the Canadian counterpart to GC. I've some lame experiences but to be fair I've learnt to research my purchases before asking. I generally do my business with them over the phone anyways and just ask that they bring in X piece and I'm good to go.

Their staff has always been great. I'm talking about the one's in the GTA.
