So I have some stuff on a couple mics I use mostly for vocals. I assume it's just spit, but I can't seem to get it off with either an all purpose cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Not too fussed about it, but I might be selling the one soon, and would rather it look as good as it can.
The one is a Lawson tube 47. I'm hesitant to use anything abrasive because (much as I hate the gaudy look), I don't wanna strip the gold plating off. The other is my Stam tube 47. I think it could take a little more abrasiveness without harming anything, but still baffled as to why I can't just wipe this gunk off.
What would you do? Magic eraser?

Yikes .... leave well alone imho.
A job for an expert in my not so expert opinion.
I imagine the reason it won't easily wipe off is - it has caused some oxidation of the super thin gold layer - it's normal for an LDC and can be kept as a minimum with a pop filter.
To be honest, I've never had an LDC cleaned even professionally - some are 25 years old - yes there's some signs of use on the capsule but I'm certain it's at least some part of why they've mellowed so beautifully.
Were you're mics sounding off?

Specificity for the Lawson give Gene a shout, nobody will have better advice. Besides the Lawson’s are some of the nicest people you will ever deal with.

true about the Lawsons! very kind and responsive folks. good call!
no problem sonically with them at all, just hoping to have them looking squeaky clean if I sell one - likely the Lawson (I still have the FET and the tube 251, so I can still get a tube 47 outta there if I need it)
