It's $50 at UA and I have a $25 coupon that goes away after tonight. Does it do anything special/better than other limiting plugs?

Unless your coupon is different than mine you have to spend $75 to get $25 off. Inflator is regularly on sale for 75% off (roughly around $35). Pretty sure it just was for Black Friday...

It distorts things to make then sound louder. UAD precision maximizer is similar but cleaner. So are some pentode and transformer plugs. If you want a limiting clipper, the apogee soft limit plug is free and good. It’s low cpu so you can easily run it at 16x oversampling.

A little bit more expensive, but I am in love with Gold Clip by Schwabe digital if you're in the market for a clipper with the special sauce

love it.on every mix before all the clip/limiter crap Do you not find it slightly “grainy” no matter the settings it has a subtle way of reducing the resolution, dynamics and softens transients in a way that’s just a bit muddy to my ears. There’s so much great hardware to put on the stereo mix bus to a achieve size and density. It’s ok for a work in progress “pump and grind” client mix - used it for that many times. You got me there RB …. not a digital tool I’d imagine you’d be strapping across a keeper mix.

Is it really any worse/better then something like the UAD atr102..? I have, on occasion... not too often but often enough pulled out decapitator for a mastering thing. Not full on but just a pinch. Once in a while. I dig some of those old Oxford plugs. Really used 'em back in the day, still have a couple on my windows rigs that I don't really use anymore. The reverb in particular was sweet... lotta killer presets in that one. Basically the only ITB verb I liked 15 years ago..? Had a great bx20 emulation.

I still use the Sony EQ (I payed IIRC $700 for it back in the day!!) and the Sony Transient plugin too for softening snares sometimes. Never tried the Sony Reverb though.

Just pulled it up on a couple things...didn't really hear how it was doing much different than the stuff I already use...

Yes ATR-102 doesn’t alias massively and has much more complex distortion than something primitive like inflator. U-he Satin is even less distorted than that. The Oxford limiter is always distorted too after it crosses the threshold. It excites the highs, kills the stereo image, and grits up the low end no matter how you set it versus something like TDR Limiter 6 GE or Ursa Boost. The reverb is cool but needs more tweaking than modern itb stuff like the Eventide SP2016 which ports all of the Princeton Digital 2016 algorithms to native CPUs and has the best reflections I’ve heard Dynamics is clean because it doesn’t do anything above 3 khz except act as a fader ride.

Im using a lot of hardware going back into pt[Vacuvox,Curvey,Whitestone P331 to Lavry Sativr] so I guess the "graininess" is kind of appealing [in my context] much like any other tape or saturation plug ins?like I also use phoenix in small amounts before inflator full well knowing its adding some grainy artifacts.
