This blew me away. Just the sound of everyone together plus Mike Dean on the live Moog. It even has a good demonstration of a Hypercardioid mic pattern via Scarface’s vocals dropping way down in level everytime he turns his head ☺️
Whenever I get too deep into my electronic/overdubbed music hole, this kind of thing brings me back and reminds me how magical a live ensemble can be.

Sounds really good, but with ten piece band and a BIG "tiny" desk, he's got a jump on people doing simpler shows. I like it. Those are some really good players he's with. Sounds like they're cutting records right there.

There’s a really good t pain tiny desk from a few years back, just him and a keys payer, no auto tune. They sound great.

The real reason why this sounds good is that the players are playing the room perfectly. Drummer is playing VERY light which means it controls the bleed into everything else. Same for really everyone. They know how to balance very very well.

So fake. There is no room. Also, I can tell the prox effect what I hear is not what I see either.

So fake. There is no room. Also, I can tell the prox effect what I hear is not what I see either. It's all ultra tight miced with mostly ribbons or DI's and hypers...of course there is no room. Not like TD has much of a "room" sound anyways. Plus it's hiphop, it's not supposed to be roomy. It's definitely not fake.

Few groups have had 10+ people. I think this is probably this largest Plenty large groups! All are great.

I wonder what the shotgun mics are? They sound great - my guess is the MKE 600
Anyone know for sure?

Mike Dean is amazing. So cool to see him playing live here. If you're not familiar with him I highly recommend checking out his synth videos on YouTube!

The 416 is the ubiquitous sound recordists mic and used a lot in voice over studios as well in Aus. Amazed there are no 'plosives with them without the wind sox and also take my hat off to the engineer who decided to use them in this context. They are providing consistently excellent sound in a really challenging environment Cheers, Ross

Maybe I’m just old but I never got “Tiny Desk”. Like…make a proper recording already…and GET OFF MY LAWN!!
It’s like the people making recordings of bands/instruments out in the middle of a field. Gimmicky and terrible.

There's some film footage up on YouTube... Of The Byrds with Earl Scruggs and his Family (Randy's singin' n' strummin' too) on "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere". Live on Earl's property. WAY cool! "Reel to Reels" "Swimmin' holes" "Music stars" Chris

The 416 is a classic but bit dated. I much much prefer the dpa4017 these days even over the schoeps CMIT.

I just watched this while waiting in a hospital waiting room. What a beautiful distraction.
That is why so many of us got into music. Getting with liked minded people and creating something that gives us (and hopefully others) joy. Scarface is loving every moment, every sound, every interaction.
It made me so very happy.

The last time I was in a legit studio was a couple years ago to watch a dream pop band tracking live through a Neve, including vocals live off the floor. It just reminded me, as Bob loves to say, that the real magic is musicians playing together and responding to each other in the room and the gear is just there to try to catch some of it. I got that same lift from watching Scarface and co playing together.

Great stuff.shotgun mics for the win.
I'm not a big 416 fan but this session is working it! although the lead vocal goes off axis pretty easy..could use a slightly wider pattern mkh 50 or perhaps a 40.
