That's awesome, thanks for sharing! I may pick up another one. I own one of these, it's been a great, affordable boom for about 10 years now here 👍🏼

I’ve got a pair that has been my go to for OH or piano for many years. They’ve been very solid.

I've got 3 of them. the plastic-based tightening mechanisms (clutch) got stripped and luckily when I contacted Ultimate they still had a "lifetime" guarantee and they sent me a bunch of parts. but if you look now, I think it's a 6-7 year "lifetime" (they feel the life of the stand is only that long - probably true now...). But I still have mine and I use them nearly everyday. 2 over the drums (although these stay pretty much as-is) and another for vocals or whatever (this one will eventually wear out again).

As I've mentioned before here, my Ultimate MC-125 is the only large microphone stand I've owned that actually fell over on me. My Soyuz 017 survived just fine, thankfully. The center of gravity is too high on the MC-125 (IMO) with how the center shaft is higher than the wheels. The plastic tightening mechanism on the telescoping section also stripped on mine after maybe a dozen uses or less.
Just my experience.

I like the design better than my giant Atlas boom, but it's true about the center of gravity being too high. I wouldn't move it around with a mic attached. One good bump and it will fall over. Once set, it works just fine. I wish I could find a stand I really liked, but not so far. And no, I do not want to pay over $500 for a stand. I just can't justify it in my setting.

Yeah in general Ultimate mic stands are inferior to the K&M stands they once imported. Unfortunately when it comes to large stands it’s Latch Lake or Songbird, neither is really affordable but then if you adjust the prices of the old Atlas stands when new for infllation neither are they !

Totally. After my experience with the MC-125, I got a Latch Lake 1100. Didn’t like spending that much on a stand, but wow that is an amazing one. I love it. I’ve got several K&M stands for dynamics and SDCs. No more “Ultimates” of any kind for me. It’s a shame, I’ve liked Ultimate guitar stands for many years.

I have a couple of these and a couple of the Altas 36W, this is really modeled after the footprint of the Atlas, and they nest beautifully together, these roll perfectly over the base of the Atlas. The clutch replacement parts are available pretty cheaply. I find the counterweight position super critical to the boom clutch even holding.....but maybe these clutches need replacement....

I've had really good luck with my pair of On-Stage SMS7650.
The Latch Lakes are wonderful for sure.

I am in a similar boat of "affordability for setting" does not justify the expense - even $300 got my wallet-senses tingling a bit too much. But, I had just spent $100 on a stand that I could return so when I saw this on sale for $200, the additional $100 didn't feel so bad, and for the stand, worth it for me.

Wicked deal! I still have a couple of these, use one for a stereo pair on the grand piano.
Way cheaper than a latch lake but just as useful for about 75% of applications.

I have a bunch of these…the middle “knuckle” will sometimes bust out if it’s been over tightened (not unlike the rubber disk in K&M stands) so if you are having to force it you to get it to stay still you need more weight in the back to balance it out…but they are very cheap to replace if it bust

Love my big Latch Lakes. My only beef is with the wheels. I wish they had three wheels for easier moving.

The clutches are geared/toothed, so they stay where you put them with no sag ever. Rock solid and very reasonably priced. on-stage.com/products/view/12624-09

Those are interesting and they are doing cymbal stands as well. agreed but the no counter weight always scares me, every 6 months some rep would bring in some new no counterweight boom and if you put something heavy on it and extend the boom it either crashed or everyone in the room stopped breathing because they were afraid any air movement would knock it over.

Yeah, do wonder about that.
