I have for some time wanted a Super 55 because they are so cool looking - great metric, eh? For whatever reason, probably based on reviews of the modern one, I never pulled the trigger, or at least found a used one at a decent enough price. I recently looked for an older version of this mic and found one for what I thought was reasonable price and in really good working condition. I have yet to try it out, but excited to have it. This is a 556s and it was made somewhere between '57 (after move to Evanston) and 81. Probably in the 70s somewhere as the windscreen is blue silk and not foam, but I don't recall when they switched to foam.

Well that was a bust....DOA. Seller accepted return request without flinching. I guess they never actually tested it as they said they did. Bummed, was really looking forward to having/using one of these.

In a strange twist of events, with the sellers approval, I opened up the mic to see if something was loose or obviously borked. No dice and it was beyond my present ability to do anything with. So after some discussion, the seller refunded my money and said "keep the mic - there is nothing I can do with it either." So now I have a prop. Beginning to look into how I can have it fixed, serviced, resurrected to its former glory. Not sure whats possible but probably leaning towards some form of modern capsule that would work in it.

You might want to try soaking it in Bulleit bourbon, that fixes a lot of things.
