I haven’t given in to streaming yet. Listened to a fair amount of new stuff but only bought three new releases.
The ‘new’ Sparklehorse. Weathervanes by Jason Isbell All the Eye can See by Joe Henry.
All were winners, for me.
Cheers, Geoff

I got the new Ben Folds, and I like it, but haven't latched on like I've done with previous records of his. I might put it back in the car player.

Nickel Creek Calebrants. Always something interesting in their music. Well, anything with Chris Thile is an instant buy for me. He is the sole reason I began my journey into mandolin playing.

All of it...literally. I just pay a measly amount every month and all music is free. What a bargain.

Jason Isbell Lori Mckenna Olivia Rodrigo Ann Wilson and Tripsitter Amanda Marshall Grace Potter Susannah Hoffs They're really starting to trickle for me... #GeritolShot ...I used to buy that many by summer. This might be the first year I've spent more on reissued old music than new--I'm embracing my inner Boomer, I guess. They would always wax on about what version of whatever 60s album I don't give a shit about is being rereleased for the tenth time with bonus content or from "original master tapes"...I've spent time this year with Toy Matinee and Third Matinee released on vinyl by MOV in Europe...they finally remastered Tori Amos's Little Earthquakes WELL for vinyl...of course I bought the Eagles catalog on SACD from Mobile Fidelity, because...they exist...is this the year the estate released Shaming of the True on vinyl? Or was that last year? Van Hagar at 96khz...and for the later two--full dynamic range for the first time...spent time listening to some Prince boxed sets...which I wouldn't buy if they were cheap--and they're NOT....I say that as a Prince fan... I actually was about to buy the new Stapleton...but, alas... $44...and I thought "let me listen to that on streaming a few times and make sure i want that"...that rarely ends well for his stuff. Same with the new Pink at $28 for the SINGLE LP...I realized there were only 2 songs I liked after listening a bunch on streaming...only later did I find out--they were the only 2 or 3 she WROTE...wrote the NEW single (and one or two more) off the recent deluxe version, which I think is streaming ONLY...so, now--she wrote at least a side of an LP, but I can't buy that...I can only buy the expensive LP with two of her tunes and a bunch of covers...and stream the others she wrote? ...it's getting weird out there...

Whoa. Maybe I buy too many records? You guys listed three or one? For the whole year? Yeah, and one of mine was posthumous. I’ve been buying records, then CDs since the mid 70s. And haven’t purged much of it. So there’s a lot of music here already. I physically don’t have space to store what’s already here so I’m super selective about what comes in here. Friends are sending me stuff to listen to all the time, some old, some new. Very little gets bought. So, lots of listening, exploring still, just not much gets bought anymore. Cheers, Geoff

I have recently decided I quite like ....
OMG don't write this Mr Tenor ....
Taylor Swift .... noooooo!
I like the early stuff, I like that Nashville sound (speaking as a Brit) I like the players on the records and there's something about her voice and the clever yet simple melodies.
Tracks like "Dear John"
I think it's because I've discovered an amazing singing talent (a 14 year old student of mine) and I've agreed with her parents I'm going to write and record an album with her - she has an absolutely stunning voice - it get's right down your spine - brings tears to you eyes when she sings something emotional - very very special singer - what I call "a telephone directory" singer.
So I've been listening to commercial girl pop stuff and Taylor Swift definitely has talent imho.

The Wilder Blue - great songwriting, harmonies, musicians, recording quality is quite nice too (especially since recorded by themselves, as far as I’m aware). I feel like they should be more well known considering their talents, discovered them from a music forum a while back. New album just released. I stream using Tidal.

They had "new music" back then? Am debating YouTube Premium (Again). Or remaining "Free" Real Player Caveman by downloading YouTube. Watching filmed/actual singers, helps me greatly with Live Performance. Not that we've made anywhere near, a Post-Pandemic Live Scene recovery. Chris

My typical Kidding aside... I sense overall the 90's were the "last gasp" of originality. (Pop Goes The 60's/a wonderful YT Channel BTW/Off the lawn-Now! ) Chris

I'm still trying to get through 1995's new music . . . A lot of stuff I buy these days is stuff released many moons ago, gaps in my collection as it were. For example I intend to check out more of the early iterations of Fleetwood Mac, complete my Joe Henry library, Thin Lizzy perhaps. I’ve been avoiding the Grateful Dead my entire life. Will 2024 be the year I actually check them out? Time will tell perhaps. Cheers, Geoff

I've been really enjoying the new HARP record "Albion". For years a few demos were posted that I absolutely loved and couldn't wait to hear in their completed form. I've been waiting since 2016! It's from the former lead singer/songwriter of Midlake. Their record "Van Occupanther" is a personal favorite.

Just can’t seem to find a way to find it interesting.

Reverie. Invisible Hour. The only one I’m not super fond of is Trampoline, but it still has lots of good stuff on it. Also love his production work. Big deep and wide. And his recording ethos. Four days to get it recorded. Don’t overthink. Cheers, Geoff

I probably bought more new music this year than in the previous 5 years combined, and almost all of it via Bandcamp. Two new things from Hainbach amongst. I love the new Julian Cope, too, but I love everything he does. I love the sound of his records these days. Like hi-fi lo-fi hi-fi, always with fuzz bass and Mellotrons.

I only bought one new CD in all of 2023. The Black Pumas - Chronicles of a Diamond. I was probably too busy buying plugins to notice CDs.
