Just livestreamed this and thought it could be fun for anyone curious about any of this stuff. Here's the chain... Lewitt 840 in omni --> Trident S20 --> A&H GS3K --> into DAW TC Electronic M300 off the board into DAW In the box is all on Master Bus. LTL SB --> TDR Kotelnikov (taking like 4 - 6db in places and amazingly transparent) --> UAD Pultec MEQ-5 --> stock limiter It's pretty cool being able to run these plugs live. To my ears it sounds pretty darn good, and I love doing the one mic thing. Also, first go-round with the D-28! www.youtube.com/live/mTxWqIhssiY?si=rhpo6UkZKr9v9BEG

Interesting how the recording gets more sibilant after the streaming process. Must be cuz of distortion crap happening in the translation out into the world. Gotta account for that in the EQ next time.

Dave Kalmusky is using Lewitt 1040s on the grand piano at Addiction now. In looking for the right mics for my C7, Dave recommended them to me.
I'm going try out the earthworks grand piano set soon, and if that doesn't do it . . . get the 1040 matched set and use them in omni

I'm really liking the 1040. It's very versatile and just easy to use.
I got a great deal on a pair a few months ago so it's also nice not worrying about them.

Ok, I'm an idiot. Haha. It's not a 1040 it's an 840. I was searching through the past threads to find out what I paid for it cuz I know I posted about it. I'm like... what the hell man, am I going crazy here? Doh. Wrong model. Anyway, the 840 sounds great and I got two of them at half off a few months ago. I'm sure the 1040 is incredible as well since it's basically the 840 but with a FET component and blend. Cool idea. Anyway, the 840. Yeah. It's good.

The next Lewitt for me is gonna be the 640 which is actually $200 off at Sweetwater right now. I think I would actually use that "change the polarity in the mix" feature a lot. Also I don't have a stereo mic in my locker. Incidentally I also saw a limited edition forest green Lewitt that they've got out right now. Forest green with black logo instead of black with alien green logo. Can someone please tell Lewitt they would sell 2x as many mics if this was their normal look? www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LCT440Vida--lewitt-lct-440-pure-vida-condenser-microphone-limited-edition-rainforest-greenIt looks like an old piece of Russian military gear instead of the current look which looks like it should come with a can of Red Bull and some Flamin' Hot Cheetohs.

Hah! I love the Lewitt sound, and find that the Don Johnson look is growing on me.
I almost hate to admit it. 😜

I almost hate to admit it. 😜 I have a thread from a while back called something like "LCT-441, not as ugly as you'd think." They really don't look as bad in person as they do in pictures. I wouldn't say it's growing on me, but it's become a non-factor. The rest of the build quality is so nice that the Alienware green really doesn't bother me at this point. Still, the forest green and black would be a huge improvement.

Man this mic is really impressing me more and more. I tried it in hypercardiod in the video here and found the following observations that make it super useful for applications like this (acoustic and vocal).
1) There are basically zero plosives. I mean you can pop it for sure, but you've got to have pretty crappy mic technique. I'm singing really close here and the only EQ on the mic is HPF rolloff pre-converter happening on the RND 5032.
2) The isolation on the hypercardiod is really great. You can see from this video that I'm sitting basically hunched over in an armchair. The guitar is really close to the mic. But without even having to post an isolated guitar track you can tell how separated the guitar is based on how much I've drenched the vocal in tape echo and yet the guitar escapes the echo assault mostly unscathed.
2a) If you're interested, the exact moment that the echo flips on is the instant the spoken intro ends. The guitar sound barely changes relative to the huge amount of effect applied.
This is gonna be my new "vocal and guitar live" setup when I've got the energy to do more than just throw up the Signal Art U48 and do the one mic thing (still my favorite combo of laziness and old school sound which are the two driving factors for 4am recordings).
