With any luck they'll apply their essentially much stronger physical build ethic. Cheers, Ross

Cheers, Ross While still sounding awful. lol …. always a positive view, we can rely on you Dan I have a Mackie 1402 as my monitor desk for tracking and it’s been going for almost 20 years non stop …. it’s a made in the USA version! But yeah, it doesn’t sound great - good enough for monitoring though - using a dedicated headphone amp of course.

I'm not surprised though. Rode is Australia's largest manufacturer! yep, not just of microphones, but of anything!!! Last year they sold over 1.3 million products and Peter has just made it into the Forbes 100 which is also no mean feat. They are dwarfing old school companies like Neuheisser and will likely keep this exponential growth curve going for a while yet. I reckon it won't be the last acquisition that Peter makes. At least this way he'll have a PA for when he gigs with Kurts guitar:)
this one's for Chris; Did I say "mean feat" or is it "mean feet"

We're using an original, made in Woodinville? Mackie 2600 power amp with our JBL 4315 mains. Built like a tank, and sounds beautiful.

As ever, the money these days is in selling tents, buckets and shovels to wanna be rich "Gold prospectors" there's no gold left in them there hills .... that's for sure! I bought a Rode NTV when it first came out, one of their first products. It had a problem with the capsule and I wrote to Rode to complain when the shop dealer wouldn't help. Peter got back to me personally, arranged a new capsule for it, gave me a spare tube and wrote me a personal lifetime warranty for the mic. Beat that - that's how you grow a company!! Clever man (IIRC I think his dad started it all) I got Bowie (forum member) to supply me with a great NOS tube and that NTV with it's esoteric parts and fancy pants Jensen output transformer is actually a very good mic. Good for Rode - he's a hard working CEO!

This reminds me of when Sears and Kmart merged… Does that mean you're predicting we'll see neither brand in like 2-3 years? I have a pair of the Røde TF5 and they are quite nice, I wonder what I could get on the used market...

This reminds me of when Sears and Kmart merged… I had to provide multi-day software training at the Sears headquarters in Chicagoland shortly after that buyout took place. About 150 people split between the two organizations. They literally divided their two organizations with the center aisle. You could feel the tension (hatred?) the moment you walked into the room. There was little to no participation, and the Sears employees just sat with arms crossed and anger on their faces. We just wanted to get through the training and get out of there.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek (of course) about merging two lessor quality brands. Those TF5 have had my attention since they came out. I'd like to know your impressions of them. Also, Sears is/was a good company. Even in bad times they always gave a huge amount of money to charities.

Even in bad times they always gave a huge amount of money to charities. The TF5 is a pretty detailed mic that leans on but doesn't embrace sounding hard, if that makes sense. Some mics in an effort to sound present sound hard to me, but I don't get that from these. I've used them on acoustic guitar and I think mandolin, drum overheads, a bit on upright piano all with good success. I've had them on short desk stands pointing at the wall opposite the drums at a 45º angle for a while now. I really like how they represent the space that way. I've done a couple records with different compressors (RND 2545 and Joe Meek SC2.2) and that was cool, but they also sound good without compression in that setting. I've kept them there for room mics with a coupld of singer song writer guitar and vocal sessions and they worked perfectly.

Darn. Here I was thinking only ala... Mode. Hit the Rode Mack and don't you come back ... Seriously, this can be great if they can make those mixers move up some notches. I do think when Mackie came out (early 90s?) it helped many home enthusiasts and others.

Kind of the higher end of the middle class departments stores, JC Penney but with better home goods.
