I feel like this has been answered once before, but I can’t find it anywhere. Does anybody know what microphones BBC is using here? Thanks. James Taylor is incredible live but BBC is no slouch.

I was at a conference with Frank Fillapetti once and he talked about the first time he recorded James Taylor. He was at JT's studio, tracking with the band, James in a booth playing and singing. He said there was a baffle between the guitar and vocal mics. He get things positioned, and walks to the control room and hit the talkback and asks James to play and sing. Then his said "and there was that voice that we've all heard and I thought 'I'm a genius!''

Those AKG’s were a favorite for video shoots years ago. There was a similar more modern Milab system that was popular after the 3 tenors used it on their first tour and was all over award shows. It was pretty decent sounding but really every director would just rave about the clean shots.
