Participants here range from musician/songwriters to home and professional studio owners so this thread will probably elicit a range of responses. I was checking out a few of these sites the other day and I noticed that the range of those who use and/or offer their services on these sites is similar to what I perceive is the demographic for RGO. I was hoping folks here could share their insights and/or concerns about these outsourcing platforms.
What is your general view about these sites? Are they good or bad for your business?
Do you use or offer services through sites like these? If so, what has your experience been like?

Have used SoundBetter and AirGigs a good amount, mostly as a session vocalist, but occasionally for full song production, mixing, etc.
Nothing but great experiences so far. AirGigs is definitely my preference because of the payout process, although they do take a good chunk of your pay.

I've done quite a few tracks on SoundBetter soundbetter.com/profiles/152139-mike-kosacekbut not as many as from my own website www.studiodrumtracks.com. SB does take their cut, but I've gotten work I wouldn't have otherwise gotten so it's the cost of doing business and I don't think their cut is unreasonable. Tried Fiver for about a minute, but it was a joke. Used to be on eSession (RIP.. a long time ago) and studiotraxx.com (but haven't seen any action there in several years).

All crap for recording, editing, mixing, and mastering. Musicians can find gigs through them though. Word of mouth and having your own website to link people is king. You'll have to jack your rates up to account for SB and Fiverr taking a cut. SB you can generally charge higher than Fiverr but it still sucks.

Well, I disagree, I've made a shit ton of money from Soundbetter. Although, now, it seems to be mostly rap requests.

I have quite a few musician friends who make a significant portion of their living on Air Gigs and/or Soundbetter. I wouldn’t personally sign up to do as a mixing engineer, however. A bassist can knock a terrible song for someone in 30 minutes and the client will be happy and they’ll never have to think about or hear it again, but mixing one of those songs and getting the client satisfied is whole other story and I won’t put myself though that.

Maybe I need to revamp or reactivate my profile. For the kind of music I end of doing, there are way too many people trying to undercut each other to pay off stuff they bought on layaway from Sweetwater and VK. What good is analog gear anyway when some of the sampled drums people send me need a -35 db box cut at 500hz and the real drums they replaced in the session were even worse?

Dan I don’t. Mostly because I know absolutely nothing about the genre, so I’ve been a little nervous to do it. I’ve thought about maybe trying to offer a few for cheap to see what I’m getting into.
