True, but he knows his grooves! In an academic sense, but his playing doesn't really get there. And his breakdowns while accurate aren't really getting what Mitch Mitchell's drumming is actually about.

I think he’s just focussed on locking in the pattern, who actually play’s with mitch’s vibe: very few!

I think he’s just focussed on locking in the pattern, who actually play’s with mitch’s vibe: very few! That's very true. Think about it, Hendrix worked with a different drummer (and this is NO SHADE on Buddy Miles) and still brought Mitch Mitchell back! There are people that can nail other players feel, fairly closely, but it's never totally exact. I think the guy in the video misses that point. He mentions jazz players, but then doesn't play with any of that swing or swagger. Maybe I'm just being a bitchy drummer... There are famous cats that have HUGE gigs who I think miss the swing and swagger when they play covers, or even older material from a band they joined (I may or may not be speaking of 2 dudes who are well loved and played the hugest stages)

The thing about Are you experienced ( will never forget hearing it for the first time!) is that it was so groundbreaking and Mitch’s drumming as a big part of that. i especially love live clips, as Mitch is always going for it and his jazz chops/vibe is very evident

He was the Elvin Jones of rock, and I've literally been saying that since my freshman year of college after I bought my first copy of A Love Supreme!

Mitch had a drum instructor named James Marshall dude apparently was a decent teacher and built some cool guitar amps as well nice contribution to the Hendrix sound overall 10-4 on the Elvin Jones comparison Mitch was the only hard rock drummer that played hard swing like that...Third STone/Drivin' South come to mind some others too

Liberty DiVito nicked that intro for Only the Good Die Young.

There's an unfilled position at the DMV somewhere that could use a guy like this

This guy's presentation is much better. I feel like his playing is closer, especially as he 'loops' his own playing there's more of the swing as he gets into it.

He so gets, that drumming is supposed to support the song: he’s just singin the melody/lyrics, but he just unconsciously drops into the right vibe and groove: playin by feel !
