Just in time for me to have just bought Svart’s Axe FX If it helps, The Edge says in the article he's also using an AxeFX.

Ugh. Not necessarily an Edge fan boi. But I might have to take the plunge on the Ruby. I have my reasons.
Cheers, Geoff

It’s certainly a notable vote of confidence for the things.

I thought the standout was the Ruby. That offers something I’ve never heard with any other modelers. If you’re way into Vox, that’s a killer option. E interesting to see what people think about the plexi.

Wish they had headphone outs. Might be a dealbreaker for me.

Someone on another board said they bought the new UAD OX Stomp and tried that with both the Ruby and the Iridium Vox setting. They preferred the Iridium through the Stomp, over the Ruby alone or through the Stomp.
I really like the Iridium vox sound, but agree that cab/room IR sound can be tough. Overall I like the Iridium controls, midi options, and headphone options better than the UADFX layout.
Regarding The Edge...he was using the Line 6 stuff from the beginning, but he had all kinds of other gear supporting it. Most of us know how questionable some of that was, but we can't be surprised he's willing to go for these modelers. He can surely get it to sound good. It is impressive he's willing to do major shows and live broadcasts with it.

At least we know what the Edge thinks sounds good! So many opinions in a vacuum out there.
But that Vegas show is so bananas, the technical considerations make my head hurt and I can totally see using a simplified setup. Add to which, amp sims are pretty dang good now. That said, now that I have an out building of my own, I'm tracking my Princeton Reverb and Silvertone 1482 exclusively.

That said, now that I have an out building of my own, I'm tracking my Princeton Reverb and Silvertone 1482 exclusively. Totally. And in the article (or maybe an article it linked to?), he actually said that it does not sound the same as his normal real amps rig, but that it makes sense for certain gigs (like Jimmy Kimmel or the Vegas residency), where his normal setup would just be prohibitive. I think that's the key with all of this stuff. There are certain scenarios where a modeler or power soak or whatever makes sense, because doing it "the normal way" would be time- or cost-prohibitive. Or in my current case, space- and volume-prohibitive.

I traded my dream for the tc electronic one. Headphones. No trem, but I have other pedals for that. I personally prefer the TC.

It’s certainly a notable vote of confidence for the things. Not for me personally. 1. It’s The Sphere - an audio “visual” delight. 2. I think U2 stopped worrying about how they sound a long time ago! 3. Just …. no. In the studio it has to be a tube amp turned up driving a speaker moving air - otherwise what’s the point, where’s the fun My band just got a new guitar player, the old chap (lovely man) used a digital solution the new chap uses a vintage AC30. Everyone agrees the band sounds like it has greater energy and is more engaging, it’s a very real difference noticeable even to my wife and that’s really saying something!

It took me a minute to find the sweet spot, but it’s fun to play. Still nothing like the real thing, but let’s me jam at night with some headphones in. I also ran it into the fx loop of my quilter and it was really great sounding. The reverb is way different than the dream. Way more springy and drippy if you’re into that particular sound.

My thinking is, if it’s a good stomp box the sim component is just gravy. Especially if they go in sale or turn up used for half price.
