So I recently did a thing. I put a Beesneez K7 capsule in my CV4. I think the mic sounds loads better and is the right type of capsule for the circuit. From my research the circuit is based on Oliver Archut's circuit. This is what the guys at Miktek shared with me as well. Anyway it is based on the alternate tube U47. So I figured it should have a 47 style capsule. I tried an AK47 which is advance audio's capsule. It was not bad. It had that typical Chinese zing in the high mid. The Beesneez K7 seems to tame that. I recently was browsing the web and stumbled upon a Stam Sa47 mk2 locally. The guys at Soundpure in Durham NC are a great bunch of guys. So I decided to shoot them out. They are very close. I am wondering if I should return the Stam and keep the cv4. The Stam has the Braingasm M7 which is a 3U capsule. This info is directly from the guy at Braingasm. This is what he said he uses on that diy forum. He said he uses their backplates. I am not sure if he skins them himself or not. I posted a link to a dropbox folder. If you guys know a better way to upload audio files I am all ears. Just got the stam this evening so this was quickly done. Both mics feeding my Pacifica with a touch of compression going in from UAD 176. Then in the DAW a touch more of the 176. The first set of files is with a gritty vocal. Leaning in with some vocal distortion. The second folder will be the same song but a cleaner vocal. I wanted to see how the mics reacted to the different vocal styles. This is just the beginning. I plan to do more testing this weekend as I have the stam on loan before I decide to commit to it. The files show A7 and B7 for the 2 different capsules. I will reveal the 2 capsules later. link

Here is the 2nd link with clean vocals. I plan to do more recordings over the coming days to put these 2 mics through the works. Stay tuned. clean vocals

Only listening on my cans, but here are my thoughts. B7 has a touch more mojo. It's smoother. I like the way it handled the high end a little better. My guess is that's the Stam SA47. The A7 is a touch cleaner. Not bad, but I preferred the B7.

Thanks again for sharing these kind of comparison files, Much appreciated. My 2 cents says the capsules reflect what you have from both reputable manufacturers here. I may be wrong, but think that the BN K7 cap is designed to be a replica of a k47 cap used in later 47's, and the Stam Sa47 mk2 uses a M7 replica type cap used in earlier 47's I believe,.....and I think you can hear the difference in those 2 caps styles that are similar but different between these 2 mics. So your preference may come down most to which sonic cap type do you prefer a M7 type or K47 type. My 2 cents thinks the A7 is the beesneez k7 cap in the miktek,... and the B7 clip is the Stam FWIW.
Also, I'm not sure I'm right about this because the very subtle size difference I hear comparing some phrases between the two mics could be caused by my ears, cans or capsule eq focus, but sometimes I think the size of the A7 is subtly a tiny bit smaller than the B7 clip FWIW. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the replies so far. I will put results up soon. I will say simple man isn't probably the best showcase of this song because it stays in one area of the vocal range and in itself is very strident when leaning in with vocal distortion. The is why I included a cleaner vocal. I was actually surprised of how much better the beesneez capsule made the cv4 sound. The cv4 with its stock capsule is ok but but the high end and its thin nature kind of bothered me. I agree with Vincent as far as one of the mics does sound cleaner than the other and one has a bit more mojo. Each mic could serve its purpose as different flavors for different sources.
I do think the cv4 circuit sound still shows up even with the K7 from Beesneez. The mic no matter the capsule seems to have an anemic low end or tighter for sure. Which is ok in the mix.
I just wonder why Miktek does not put a better capsule in this mic and maybe upgrade some of the internals. It has a great transformer and tube. Which is really the same transformer and tube in the SA47. I found out the SA47 is using the braingasm M7 which is really a 3U capsule. The guy from Braingasm said he uses 3u backplates. Not sure if he does his own skins.

I "think" I may have been the first person to put a K7 into the CV4, many years ago. The electronics of the CV4 are fine. Oliver did a great job with the design. The weak point was absolutely their capsule. It seems like it might be some K67 variant that was poorly implemented into the wrong cicuit. There is no HF attenuation in the CV4. K67 capsules need that extra filter circuit to tame the high end. What they ended up with was an overly harsh and brittle sounding mic. I was all set to get rid of it before I bought one of Ben's capsules. I've had it up against a U48, CM7/M7 and a bunch of other high dollar mics. None of them sound identical to each other, but the CV4 with a K7 can run in the same race. As far as being lean in the bottom; I don't find it being all that reduced. It's more a proximity thing. I really think a lot of that comes from the head basket. A U47 has a larger head basket than the CV4. I'm sure the reflections in the head basket have a lot to do with the close-up sound.
I found it to be really stellar on alto vocals.

Yep so no surprise mostly the guessing was spot on. A is the cv4 with beesneez K7 capsule and B is the SA47 with the Braingasm M7 (3U m7). So I messed with these mics some tonight. I will drop the files here. Basically this time I am running the CV4 and SA47 through the BAE at different takes. I also included a file of the custom built mic I crafted using a micparts v251 circuit kit and power supply kit. I sourced my own body and grabbed a Beesneez c12 capsule. The custom v251 is going through the Pacifica.I dropped this link in another thread. In case you have seen the other thread they are the same files. Knocking on heavens door
