I and my friends that use PT have been using iLok for like 15 years and I’ve never had or heard of a single issue with it among us. It’s something I don’t care about or ever think about. I get that people on laptops see it as one extra thing to carry around and not lose, but I've never seen it as a big deal either. The cloud thing, at least with Luna, has been buggy though. I'm glad that they've added a machine authorization option. I only use cloud ilok as a last resort, but the thumb drive is no big deal, in my opinion.

i don‘t want to pay another 50€ for a usb dongle. i have bought adapters enough to make my system work and its freaking me out. especially apple lately. its 2023 and i need 3 adapters to make an audiointerface and an backup external harddisk work! its either that or i would have to buy everything new every 3-5 years and dumb my STILL PERFECTLY WORKING audiointerface and hd. i know thats how business goes but we are killing our planet and environment right now. come on, not for me. and regarding luna, seems to be a good product, but why do i have to agree to so many things when installing it? they even want to record my screen! if a product is for free it still comes with a price: your privacy your data and in the end your freedom. and i am certainly not gonna run a system were i have to have permanent internet connection open while recording/mixing. i am gonna delete it. I "think" the screen recording thing is to allow various controller aspects to use image recognition to identify "hooks" for buttons/knobs and things like that. For example, I was asked the same screen recording question when I installed my Rocksolid Audio Micro 3. This was because it needs to "see" my screen so that it can identify places on the screen that it needs to identify as buttons that you then, as a user, can utilize. I don't "think" there is anything nefarious about it, but I understand your concern, and generally have similar concerns about the whole "E.T. phone home" thing that more and more software companies are doing.

Side bar: I finally bought a usb-c hub from OWC and it is really nice to only have one single connection point to my MacBook. I always think of this kind of thing as frivolous until I do/try it and it improves my flow tremendously.

Ok so just for shits and giggles, why would native Luna be something I would return to UA for?

Just remember a hub still means everything is still sitting on the same bus, your getting more inputs on the bus not more buses so a conflict is still a conflict. Not as big an issue as it once was, until it is.

This is very interesting to me, could be the console style workflow I’ve wanted for a while, but I’m skeptical…
Anyone know if hardware inserts are supported now? And is there delay compensation for them?

And is there delay compensation for them? There's extensive FAQ on their website. But...no and no. I've seen some people figuring out a way to use a chain on the mix bus. But for normal channels and group buses, it's not an option to use a hardware insert.

If it suits your work method it’s a superb piece of software. View it for what it does not what it doesn’t It replaced tens of thousands of dollars of gear for me …but.., for you maybe not
Cheers

^^This^^ Luna is worth a good demo, as for some (many?), they just click with luna and really appreciate what if offers, others not so much.
I’m demoing it again, but again find the learning curve vs just using Logic, a disincentive.
At least, over the last while, UA’s plug pricing has continued lower. I note Ultimate 12, is a little more than a grand now, as opposed to many $1,000’s more for buying fewer plugs.
I bang this drum slowly again, only because Drew mentioned yesterday on fb, in response to a specific question about this inequity that UA is considering some version of a loyalty program to remedy this for the more heavily invested UA clients.
We’ll see.

You specifically are a songwriter and performer. You are obviously comfortable in Studio One and that means that you can get to work tracking and compiling things for your collaborators. Knowing the software you have allows you to continue doing the thing you have a DAW for. (BTW I woke up with "Here We Go" in my head)
